We're looking to change our Electricity supplier. Can you suggest names , KW usage per year and/or cost per month.
PM if you rather.

Thank you.

Tony.

I think from your monthly sum and the existing supply details you are now on --- they can convert it to kWh usage.

That's not what im after mate. I'm trying to find a cheaper alternative from Scottish Power where in less than 2 years our cost has doubled to £174 per month!

You should (I think by law) get an annual summary from your current supplier. It should be printed on your bill or available on-line. If you have an economy rate then you need the breakdown to get kW usage.

There are many providers out there but none are 100% safe compared to the big 6. That said, it should be relatively easy to shave a big lump off your bill by changing. We changed to save £550 a few months ago. A few days in, they put their prices up. Still way less than the incumbent supplier for dual fuel though.

I stick with British Gas. I know they're not the cheapest but you know where you are.

But what I do is to hop around tariffs and sometimes go to people like Sainsbury's who are just British Gas in disguise. MSE Energy Club keeps your details and you can go online to see if you are on the best tariff. And/or they can email you when they notice a better deal.

There are some horror stories from switchers. But equally, BG are not beyond reproach at times.
Switching itself couldn't be easier. You just need some details including your meter IDs. You also have to take meter readings on the nominated change day.

Like everything else - buyer beware. Keep an eye on things after the change.

Through the Money Saving Expert Energy Club, I am on a 2 year fixed rate deal with OVO Energy. I pay £110 per month but am now £400 in credit. I could claim this back but as they are paying 4% interest on it, I am not bothering.

As you are probably aware Tony, in today's world the energy market is always changing and there is no one supplier who consistently offers the best deals year on year. It is a pain, but most of the cheapest deals will be 12 month contracts, which revert to their dearer standard rates once the year is up unless you take up their offer of a new deal or you swap supplier again.

The actual switching is mostly a painless activity nowadays (unless you have a 'smart' meter). I would definitely recommend U Switch or MSE for comparing deals.

As for suppliers, I would avoid small companies that are recent start ups and those with poor customer service ratings. I would also avoid deals based purely on green energy unless you're an ecomentalist!

OVO rates highly for customer service but not as cheap as they used to be and now they have taken on Spark customers their bills will likely rise again.

I personally swapped from OVO to Avro Energy in May and currently pay £93 per month for gas & electric (£118 with OVO) with the same KW/hr consumption.

If you don't like the hassle of swapping, there are companies out there now that will automatically search out and put you on the best deals and take of care of everything for you, not only for energy but for all your insurances, broadband, telephone etc (for a fee).

Also with OVO monthly reduced from £134 ( npower and going up as not covering cost)to £114 and at present nearly £300 in credit. Difficult to get exact comparison as we also changed boiler to a more efficient model. The old boiler was around 20 years old.

The new boiler should make a massive difference. Our gas bill went down by 30% when we changed to a condensing combi-boiler.
If your old one was a condensing one then the reduction will be smaller.

Best thing to do is go on the comparison site, I use comparethemarket, but there are others. All you need is the usage details from your last annual statement, feed the details in, pay by direct debit etc. Its all done for you.
I used the Meerkat mob for quite a few years now never had any problems. Use it as a matter of course for car, house insurance, energy supplier etc. Sometimes the quotes that come for your existing supplier can be used to contact them to say I can get better deal on line than renewal quote you gave me. Works every time, they don't want to lose the business. I've change energy supplier about 6 times in last 10 years.
You'll now have loads of time to do these sort of things when you retire at end of year.

Bloody hell Tony, that's a big number. Are you sure that's a month not a quarter?

I'm the same boat as you in as much I only take electricity as we have oil fired heating but do have an electric oven. For reference these are my costs:

My last annual statement was from 1/5/17 to 30/4/18 and I used 2,898 KWH which cost £436.67.

My current [pun intended] plan is a standing charge of 21.198 / day and a unit charge of 13.112p

I pay £33 / month and I'm in credit by £77.25 at the moment.

I changed to iSupplyEnergy 5 years ago and take up their fixed price deal. I do check with other providers first. I like their pricing structure as it's the same unit cost all the time. None of this such and such a rate for the first so many KWH then a different rate after.
