Do we really need that much windshield fluid?

I've had my Z3 for almost 2 weeks now and absolutely loving it. As I'm going over the engine I can't help but think that a large amount of space has been dedicated to the windshield washer fluid reservoir. I personally could get away with something 1/4 of the size. What would one do with all that extra space? Maybe a PA system? air horn...
Toughts?

You must come from somewhere dry and dust free. I can get through that much fluid in a week over the UK winter.

Its moderate here, generally we get all seasons. Claire is basically a Sunday driver so you're right in that my washer usage is scant. ...the two times I did use the washers half of it landed in my face

I use more washer fluid than petrol.

I don't think they're very well designed for operation with the roof down...

I think I've topped up my washer bottle once in 5 years Must try harder

When these cars were daily drivers the large bottle would have been needed. Plus those with headlight washers needed the extra capacity.
