While i have been off for the last 2 weeks i decided to crack on with our bathroom, this has took an age as i have done all the Electrics, plumbing and tiling myself but will have saved me a fortune. I dont think it has come out too bad just a couple of little things left to do and also just need to get a bath and install it. Excuse the panting as just had a shower and had to run down stairs and back up again to fetch my phone, at least i got some exercise in =)). So who else is doing DIY at this moment in time

Billz, New electrics in a bathroom requires a Part P certificate mate, plus a test certificate for the work. Have you got a sparky mate who can do those for you?

Already done mate. A friend of mine is an electrician and has done a full test and Inspection of it the same as when i did my lounge and kitchen. I do the work and he checks it, which he does not mind as he knows it will be done better by me than an Electrician. I have been a Fire Engineer for over 20 years and to be honest the work i see that Sparkies have done is atrocious and i mean atrocious

Lovely work @billz :)
I love the radiator adds a lovely touch :)

I have some DIY to do today..... Dentistry :eek:

I broke a back tooth last Friday, and couldn’t phone till this morning.
It appears that there are no dentists doing any work in the UK at the moment.
Because there is a sharp edge, which is cutting into my tongue, he suggested I file it down myself using an emery board. ( which I don't have )
May have to get creative with some wet’n’dry

Wonder if its safe to use a dremel ...=))

I was a Sparks all my working life, and yes some of the work of others I encountered on test and inspections was diabolical.
Also unbelievable was some of the work carried out by householders themselves, and some kitchen fitters. I uncovered new and modified work that was potentially lethal. When I explained to the client that I couldn't issue a certificate until rectification work was carried out, the usual reply was,"Well, it's been working okay for 'x' number of years."

Mind you, I had some lovely customers, and worked in some lovely old houses in Sussex with fantastic history. I met David Jacobs and had a nice chat to him about music etc when I worked at his Bungalow just outside Pulborough. Also Maggie Smith and James Bolam used to come into the shop.

Being in the Fire Industry i have a fast amount of knowledge on where and how to run cables, i always make sure they are protected where ever possible and also only run them up or down in straight lines. I did an intruder alarm in a domestic once, decided to put the keypad by the back door (no sockets or switches of any kind) drilled about 5mm into wall and bang through me back on to the stairs when we checked how the fck i could of hit a cable we found someone ran a cable from the kitchen socket horizontal then at an angle at half way into the hall then drilled into a cupboard to feed a cable for an additional socket

A customer watched me install a low level Twin socket with a vertical cable run. The plasterer followed up and plastered the wall.
The customer then drilled a hole to hang a picture right above the socket and right through one of the cables!

No, I saw that he had hung the picture right above the socket and chipped away a bit of the plaster to reveal the damaged cable
BEFORE I switched the juice on for that circuit. Luckily it was a large picture and covered the repair.
