Distilled vs tap water

Just go to your water butt cotton filter it, my flowers love it. £5 extra to fill your radiator???? Rather put a couple litres petrol in the tank. Fools look on etc.=)).

You should check that out very carefully before considering using it, its been found to cause issues with some components in more modern engines if my memory serves, plus many race tracks have banned it as its super slippery if spilt. I did some looking after I saw it on Wheeler Dealers, always found it strange that Ed only used it once and never recommended it again??
 
I use pre-mixed coolant or distilled water / antifreeze, why would you not? if you change your coolant every 2 / 3 years surely you would want as pure a liquid as poss? You wouldn't use contaminated oils or fuel in you pride and joy, why would the coolant system be any different? If we are taking that bit of extra care of our Zeds because of their age, value or just because we cherish them, all areas of regular maintenance should equally important should it not.

Just my opinion.

I think Sean your kettle is possibly a poor indicator, even if you are a total tea junkie :whistle:. The kettle even under heavy use is usually a single composite material, only gets to a high temp for several seconds then switches off. Now you think about your beloved 2.8 engine, many components, plastic, rubber various metals, then think about the hours you hoon around places like the peaks, temps going up and down all day but staying as a average high for sometimes hours. As you don't know whats actually in DRINKING water to make it safe for consumption, its possible those additives, given time are creating havoc on a consistently hot, pressurised, hostile environment?
 
Out of interest. For anyone who doesn't think it's necessary to use distilled water. Do you drink the water out of your kitchen tap? Or drink only bottled water?

It does vary from region to region as mentioned. Perhaps I'll look into robbing some water from Swansea next time and bringing it back to Swindon where I do the work. Swansea water is some of the nicest in the UK.

Carbonated bottled, got to be desperate to drink tap water.
 
Only thing that comes out of a tap is beer isn't it? Drinking water comes from the fridge.;)

I have to take a medication twice a day mixing it with cooled down boiled water, not water straight from the tap. I haven't a scooby why they say that but I do as I'm asked or Jue kills me!

Next best to distilled mate. Like you used to make babies bottles up with.

It's amazing how much money the water companies spend making the water that comes out of the tap safe to drink. Then peeps buy bottled water. I only drink water if its got malt, hops and barley in it;)

Hear in Glasgow many years ago in the late 70s and early 80s, it was always said that the Glasgow water was the purest in Britain in fact they went as far as saying that you could top up your car batteries with this water. I still regularly drink straight from the tap.
Even from the local stream as long as there weren't too many sheep about :whistle:

Yep, I remember the days of living in Folkestone and having to buy a new kettle at least once a year. Gave up in the end and bought a camping kettle to boil on the gas hob and never had to change again. Up here in Wales I'm still using the same kettle that was new about 10 years ago.
And back in Folkestone there used to be a company called Silver Spring that would take the local chalky water, bottle it and label it as Mineral Water and send lorry-loads of it up to Scotland. Why, I do not know, from what I remember of Scotland it has no shortage of water, but that's the power of marketing, I suppose.:rolleyes:

Nothing wrong with good old Peckham Spring Water, it's not free though if you pay water rates. Love it or loath it you'll be getting it knowingly or otherwise. Why pay twice. Can't be bad for your pride and joy unless it's states in your hand book. Can't find it in mine.

I never buy bottled water, I always drink it straight from the tap as I have for the last 50 years
