So, with regards to the start button... Does it replace the key start function or did you keep that and say just turn the key to ignition and hit the button? I would ;love a little detail :)
It's pretty straight forward...go to Ebay enter starter button...buy a button for about a tenner. Go to google find out which wire does what from your ignition; wire in 3 wires. Job done :)

I've just done this bypass today and can confirm it works. I chose the option of NOT cutting the harness and used electronic breadboard wire to "poke" into the terminals. Then knocked up some longer leads for the speaker. Tidied up the mess and buttoned up the lower dash and all good !

Currently running an Alpine head to the stock HK amp and all is good, have been meaning to wire up a truly good amplifier but would have to add in RCA's to the trunk and deal with the speaker outputs of the amp. Not hard to do, just procrastination on my end.

Sooo...how hard is it to get to the various speakers? Is it just a removable cover or do you have to pull of entire panels to get to them? I hate pulling panels on older cars because they usually have plastic pins that are brittle with age and break.

Hello there!
Maybe I can get some help from you guys reviving this topic. I bought my car and it came with a stock BMW Business RDS cassette with bad pixels and some black spots due to bad LCD liquid, it has also had a small hit now. I wanted to attempt the repair but I think I need a new LCD screen. If someone knows something about how to get one I would appreciate it.

On the other hand, I bought a couple of Beckers, a Traffic Pro high-speed and an Indianapolis Pro. When I changed the first one some speakers weren't working. I thought it could be the wiring harness in the car because it looked "modified". But now I put the Indianapolis and there are other speakers not working properly and those "defective" now work perfectly. What could this be?
Thanks in advance!

Wiring.
Depends on the car the system was on.
Mercedes for example can not use the same "brand" -> to iso harness.
Best way to sort out wiring is to strip everything that covers them and do a battery - bulb test.
Then check the diagram of the stereo and attach wire by wire to your iso plug or slash and connect.
Hope what I say makes sense.

It makes all the sense. I though so too. But that would not explain why there are different speakers working with the same iso connection. Both beckers have the same wiring diagram…

Dumb question... did you check the balance and fader on the becker? I am sure you did, just asking to be sure...

I did indeed. No luck. When I do combinations problem remains. Only the front left speaker is failing now. I have an hifi system. Maybe is this the thing? Lack of compatibility? With the traffic pro adjusting fader and balance it could be partially fixed. But in this case front left was perfectly working and the right speakers weren’t at fader = 0 but were a bit when fader was indistinctly moved up or down to 5 or more…

So I ubderstand you have the harman karnon setup (hifi) installed from factory? With sub etc?
Or the six speaker setup (footwell-tweeters-midrange)?

I have subwoofer. I wasn’t sure if hifi or Harman Kardon.

Beckers especially out of a Porshce are a nightmare when plugged to other brands.
I can check the wiring schematics but you have to tell me what car these come from.
Porsche has a totally different setup in wires than bmw and even reversed polarity in many cases. Even the same model fitted on different Porsche models can differ.
Trying to help but not sure if I can guide step by step.
The old oem headunit works ok if installed back I presume?

About the Old OEM I can’t tell, I think so. It had so many pixels out that I couldn’t use it. I don’t know where did they come from. The Indianápolis was mounted in a Mercedes Van before. But not Porsches I think.

Can you post a photo from the pin setup of the becker and the plug you are using? Is it an iso to bmw one?

It will be a pain but you will have to check your harness to make ends meet.
Checking that wiring from A to B connects as it should.
If this is ok, and only the left front (passenger for UK) speaker does not have sound (and all the others have) try the old headunit and check with that.
My approach would be to check ends meet first.
(Front l to front l, etc).
Maybe someone has a better idea. Sorry I cant do much more.

The thing is that front left works with the other Becker (same diagram as the one I just sent) and right front do not. That’s why I think there’s maybe something with the radio itself.
