Advice please, the dipstick on our 1999 2.8 Z3 appears to be stuck in. Can't remember having any issues with it before. Any ideas please? Don't want to snap it.

My 2.8 has an oring at the top, try a little WD-40 or other suitable lubricant at the top of the Dip Stick.

They get really dry through lack of use. You need to twist it rather than just pull it. Don't twist with the ring, try to grab the top of the piece which fits into the tube with a pair of pliers. Failing that have a ride over here tomorrow or Monday.

Dipstick freed off with combination WD40 and twisting. Now know engine oil ok so need to trace tapping noise. First thought was hydraulic tappet sticking but can of Wynns made no difference so more reading. Thanks again.

When the tappets had a go on my 2000 2.0 I put some engine oil flush in, ran a couple of days into work.(Lincoln). Then drained, new oil and filter plus tin of Wynns Valve Lifter Concentrate. Noise gone.

You're only half an hour from me. I'm retired, have lift and pit. If you want to get bits you can come and we'll do it here?

Tony.

Thanks Tony that's a great offer. I'll get the bits together and contact you to sort a date that's good for you and I am off work.
