Before I go ripping stuff apart would anyone have an idea what I should be checking ,bulbs are ok and switch is working ok as I’ve taken it out and tested it,just wondering is there a relay or some that may be fed up ...hasn’t been in use for 2 years .cheers and happy new year

Each headlight has its own fuse plus a headlight relay and a main beam relay, all in the fuse box in the engine bay. Fuses are 7.5amp.
Check the fuses are good then check out the headlight relay, swap the relays over and see if that restores power to the bulbs. The headlight switch is always suspect so double check that is working and has power on the headlight position.

My money would be on the main light switch. Can you swap it from the other car to eliminate it as a possibility?

Tony.

Yhanks guys fuse ok and took the swich our and put a meter on but may be wrong ill swap with on of the other cars and see

Wont be the main light switch or neither heads or dips would work. I'd put money on the dip switch stalk.

I had a problem like this about 4 years ago in the Dakar.
I had been over to see a mate a few miles away all was well left about 2 hours later started zed no dipbeam only sidelights and main beam check fuses no issue had to drive home in the dark on unlit A and B roads with sidelights and front fog lights o_O

So started investigating next day so after a bit of messing around checking for live and earth at various points ( having looked over the wiring diagram first) ended up finding that the live feed for the dip beam from the switch to the dip beam relay was where I was loosing the feed .
If I powered the relay live from battery jump point under bonnet the first beam headlights would come on .
So after chasing through the loom discovered that the switch live went into a control unit of some sort behind the glove box this was the last place I could find it ( didn't know which other wire was the out feed up to the relay in the fuse box) so disgruntled I ended up cutting the wire before the control unit and running a new cable to the relay switch live in the fuse box and it has been fine ever since
Hugh I hope your issue is less problematic than mine was as done my head in trying to get it sorted .

Stephen.
