Took a hint from another forum member (can't remember who) and filled the gear box and diff oil through a funnel, gear box done via the engine bay and diff done through the bolt hole in the boot that holds the spare wheel tray,
Both oils that came out where very clean so can only presume that a previous owner had changed them, when I got the car all the running gear was gloss black so I can assume it has had some love in the past.

It was me who suggested the funnel and tube method through the engine bay, glad it worked for you, sure beats messing about with the squeeze bottles. I managed the rear diff with the bottle and tube, good to see you worked out a funnel and tube method for that. Might try that next time as it's getting harder at my age scrabbling under the car these days, I always suffer the next day.
