It's pretty easy to see the cheats. Lorries from 2008 onwards have an additional tank to Carry "ad blue". Pig p*** to you and me.
Dvsa look for lorries older than this as they have to have them retro fitted to get there rfl down. Easy to bolt one to the chassis but not add any pipework and pumps?
Lorries then have euro status, we are on euro 6 now but unscrupulous companies are having chips fitted to euro 4 and 5 to reduce emmsion readings to get lower tax bands saving them bug bucks and of course no cost for ad blue which is now around 80p a litre on top of diesel costs.
The northern Ireland guys are bent as they come, they run every trick in the book. Most firms here run straight 6 engines, the Irish love the V8, they knock the limiters off and often pass me at 65-70 and I'm pretty certain burning zero ad blue.

I saw an item on tv a few weeks ago where DVSA were following trucks with a sniffer that detects the emissions and stopping those that should have adblue installed but were still emitting high levels of toxic gasses. All these had an adblue defeat device fitted to make the ecu think there was adblue in the tank in order to keep the engine running.
No doubt they just get a slap on the wrist.

Well they should start impounding these trucks then. Simples.

Tony.

Believe me Ian there are no slaps on the wrist in our industry anymore. One of our drivers just got fined £100 per loose box on his lorry floor and the firm for £5000. All the boxes contained nothing more than small plastic end caps for guttering and the like. They were no bigger than a large show box.

Ian was,I'm sure, referring to the fuel cheats Dave.

Tony.

Cost of buying a second-hand petrol car rises by 10% as price of diesels plummets following backlash against the fuel.
  • Diesel cars have been blamed for a string of health warnings in past few years
  • Petrol-engined Fords are the biggest winners in 'anti-diesel hysteria' fallout
  • The average second-hand value of Ford cars rose by a staggering 11.7%, or £912
Fears are mounting over the future of thousands of car dealerships after the number reporting ‘significant’ financial troubles at the end of 2017 jumped 35 per cent compared with a year earlier.
