If it was sucking in unmetered air through the damaged "O" ring it may cause running issues.

Tony.
My car runs well, just an emissions issue (CO level). Wouldn't a damaged "O" ring tend to weaken the air/fuel mixture and therefore reduce CO emissions? Grasping at straws a bit i'm afraid!:(

It takes a little while to understand how the DISA valve operates and what it does. It effectively changes how backflow pressure wave from air intake gets routed around the inlet manifold. As one valve closes it routes the reflected air pressure through the manifold along different length paths depending on if it is open or closed. At lower revs the valve is closed forcing that wave along a longer path than at high revs when it is closed.
It does this so that the pressure wave arrives at a corresponding cylinder just as it’s inlet valve opens so increasingly the air charge. An ingenious device that has a massive effect on torque at lower revs if it is stuck open or at high revs if it is stuck open.

Think you’ll be surprised on the impact a new valve will have on power delivery through the Rev range.
It is unlikely to have much impact on emissions I would have thought.

Think I can (maybe) eliminate DISA valve issue then from my emissions challenge, thank you. Good job we love these old cars!:)

Part turned up today.......and was a brand new one as advertised, and Exactly the same part as the one I removed from the car.
Installed within 20 mins of arriving.
Cleared the fault code, and went for a quick spin round the block.......rechecked and .NO FAULT CODES detected :):):):):)

What a happy bunny I am....

That was a great result as it only cost 65.00 plus postage.

Garage would have cost, 50.00 diagnostic charge, approx 200.00 for the part, and about 60.00 labour.

I read up about this unit and what it does, and am still none the wiser, but the important thing is that I now know how to fix it and that’s all that matters=))=))

Excellent, isn't it rewarding when you fix something and well done to Robert @mrscalex for his invaluable input yet again.

Just as an update.
Been out in the car today.......it may be just me but it seems much more responsive.
It makes me think there must have been a problem with the DISA valve ever since I bought it, which
without running a diagnostic on the car I would probably never have picked up.

It will be interesting to check the mpg next time I fill the tank up and see if there is any difference.

Bit of a revelation isn't it?

To fix mine all I had to do was clean it with carb spray. Quick and cheap fix (for now anyway).
