Well after 3 weeks of limbo after the Zed being stolen, the decision has been made.
The insurance company has made the decision to write it off…without the option to purchase the salvage.
I can purchase from the auction but I have been advised that they won’t insure it again anyway.
I had a grizzle, as one does, and had a conversation with the assessor whose decision it was to kill it off.
As we do, I’d loaded it up with a load of mods etc that were not included in the original insurance. After the chat, and advising that it was insured for the max that they’d cover it for, the assessor agreed to me taking of the bits that had been added.
They had the car delivered to home this afternoon and tonight the detango performed a few months ago, was reversed. All the LEDs that had been fitted now removed. The stereo will come out tomorrow and probably the 17” wheels and tyres will come off and the 16’s go back on.
With out the assistance and conversation had with the assessor I’d never had known I could get my bits off of it and that they’d deliver and the collect the car when I’m done.
Then the pain begins in trying to find the replacement.

The interior was trashed, the boot was gutted of all carpets and some of the tools.
thebody was reasonably clean… a few scrapes but mechanically and the suspension the insurance were not prepared to green light it.
The forensic powder and tapes etc did nothing to make it look appealing

All you can do is make the best of a very bad job Trev. Hope you can find a good replacement when the time comes.

Tony.

Feel gutted for you..... I was lucky with the assessor when mine was sandwiched in a shunt a couple of years ago, and did a deal with me retaining the car and getting an ‘ in lieu’ cheque which covered all the repairs ( which I did as it was all cosmetic rather than structural)

Hope you find another soon to replace it.

99% of cars end up at Copart, anyone can join and bid on a car.
if the desirable parts are missing it will devalue the selling price, poor seats, mud covered roof hiding the true condition, flat/disconnected battery will mean the car cannot be started and mileage not be shown. Take the door mirrors off.
Taking this into consideration, non runner, no high value parts I would estimate a max selling price of £250 at auction

Mot wanting to give you any ideas of course;)

I hope you can find a replacement for your Zed. My first car, a 1979 Escort 1600 Sport was stolen, and recovered, like wise covered in finger print dusting powder. I kept it for a while but it never felt the same.
