I'm posting this as I sometimes see the stretch called the "Cat and Fiddle" mentioned on here, apparently one of the most dangerous routes.

It's a lovely stretch of road spoiled by average speed check cameras .
It's only dangerous if you don't respect it as such, same as any nice twisty roads ;).
I'm sure there are as many car drivers that run out of talent as bikers do on such roads.

So when are you going to give it a go Tony ?.:).

Cat and fiddle is well renowned for motorcycle accidents. They've put a load of 50mph average cameras on it now.

On a nice warm sunny top down day I think.;)

Loads of blind corners and sheep get in the way.

I suspect that it's not the road that is dangerous.

Usually the case Ian, more often that not it's Operator error where issues arise. Sheep have no road sense either.;)

No such thing as 'Dangerous roads'. I've never heard of a road violently mugging anybody or carrying out an armed robbery ! It's just bad driving. As I live quite near that road and my sister lives over there, I use it pretty regularly and I'm still here, but I have had a number of near misses with idiotic motorbikers who think they are taking part in a TT race and completely overestimate their riding skills. I've only avoided bad crashes because I could see that they were inevitably going to run wide onto my side of the road as they came round bends towards me.

@Grumps - its not just how safe a load is - it's frightening the number of HGV drivers that seem to take no account of the high centre of gravity when turning at islands. Just not worth getting on the outside of them - you just never know when one is being pushed just too far and about to go over.
A couple of years ago I saw a road sweeper of all things tip over on an island.

Yes it is, I have been loading out oil & gas equipment for years and the drivers made sure during loading that everything was safe and loaded properly.
@Grumps problem is, he is not there when the meat heads load his truck.

To be fair there is a mix of all issues here. You cannot blame the roads, Ian is right, some drivers are morons and don't take into account the high level of gravity etc. Mike too is Right, our loads are done through the night and the nature of the load can be problematic. The picture of the Cavalok is a typical example.
It shouldn't be loaded as high as it was for sure, if you look at the picture it has collapsed under it's own weight causing it to lean inwards pushing the stillages over on the other side and coming through the curtains. I have lost track of the amount of times I've had words about s*** loading but it falls on deaf ears. That said we have a new H&S manager now who seems keen to sort these problems out. I put five two tonne straps on that load.

There have been many trucks fall over on Lincoln bypass roundabouts and the main reason has to be they try to negotiate the roundabouts far too fast and the camber is dead flat.

Bound to be somebody else's fault though. Always is.
Even on open roads you see some HGVs tanking in to corners at speeds most car drivers would think twice about. Cameras and gps in cabs clearly doesn't work until it's too late.
Maybe insurers should insist on their telematics in lorries too. A couple of emails to the transport managers and MDs would quickly alter driver behaviour.

We're not all the same Ian. Plenty of car drivers drive like complete cocks.

I agree with that comment Dave. Another thing I have noticed, which appears to be a trait of European truck drivers in the UK, is bully boy tactics using the size of their vehicles to intimidate car users at roundabouts and junctions etc. It can get a bit scary and I think using the LHD card as an excuse.
