Looks a good buy with a few cosmetics to resolve result
Wow awesome!! Yey it's getting savedI saw the ad for the £2750 Dakar last weekend @BMBabe, it was a bit leggy on the mileage, and so wasn't for me. But I was chatting to a good friend of mine in Germany who has a good taste for Zeds, and he asked me to find out more.
After the usual questions we arrived at a selling price of £2200, and so went up a bought it yesterday! It drove back to Weybridge quite well, its had recent new brakes all round and bushes, its nowhere near as fresh feeling as my 37k car, but at the same time felt a lot better than many 90k cars I've driven!
Faults were that it has the usual bit of rust at both ends of the cills, hole in the drivers bolster, and drivers mirror needs the whole unit replacing (anyone have any spares?}
So it will be off for a new life in Germany any day now, but it will have a good future! View attachment 49733 View attachment 49734
The pictures looked really good as wellThe one at £5995 is the local one to me I checked for a forum member. It's not a nice car and is worth half that price. He's had it for months. No wonder really.
Pics can tell lies Stacey. It does look good but close up tells a different story.The pictures looked really good as well

Why would anyone living in Germany want an RHD car?....But I was chatting to a good friend of mine in Germany who has a good taste for Zeds, and he asked me to find out more.

BECAUSE ITS DAKAR May not be any for sale in GermanyWhy would anyone living in Germany want an RHD car?....
Oh, and the cost of importing it on top.
Z3's are a fair bit more to buy in Germany, so a RHD is very good on price. Plus RHD has a certain novelty in Europe, they much prefer MG's and the like as RHD, so a Z3, an American car is, well, just right. Cost to import is the ferry, and petrol, lets call it £100. They have to get a new TuV (MOT), and thats about it, pre brexit. If it was the other way round, all we'd be doing is importing Z3's.Why would anyone living in Germany want an RHD car?....

They had a Dakar special in Germany too....rare and not cheap!BECAUSE ITS DAKAR May not be any for sale in Germany
I dont think I've ever looked at a car in the flesh that's lived up to its photos.Pics can tell lies Stacey. It does look good but close up tells a different story.
I thought they had to get a major inspection done and then get your reg plates?Cost to import is the ferry, and petrol, lets call it £100. They have to get a new TuV (MOT),
They have to get certificate of origin for the car from BMW, so it proves it complies with EU specs, then TuV, then registration, new log book with 0 owners too. Car has to be original spec, no special exhausts etc.I thought they had to get a major inspection done and then get your reg plates?
Maybe things have changed?
But it was/is like that over here, as I have done it with a Merc, as they had higher spec for the money than here.
So did your mate get a bargain then? I dont know the prices in GermanyThey had a Dakar special in Germany too....rare and not cheap!
I think its a bargain, both here and in Germany! Dakar love....Although the Fiji is a good 2nd best!So did your mate get a bargain then? I dont know the prices in Germany
