last bank holiday I did my first paid detailing job for a friends son a black 57 plate 320 diesel coupe, quite a few deep scratches and some deep chip marks on the bonnet. First I washed the car then clay bared it to see what I was up against ,first job I filled the chip marks with touch up paint and laquior when it had nearly dried I flatted it back with 3000 grade wet and dry paper some of the deep scratches also needed flatting out as well once happy I buffed these up with the buffer.Next I started on the swirl markes all over the car with the menzerna cutting compound when I was happy that I had got all the swirls out I then set about with menzerna 2200 super polish full car completed and very happy with the outcome,a full wash then two coats of King of gloss wax and 22 hours later da paid for hear are a few pics of the final result and one happy customer image.webp

Brave man putting grit paper to some elses car mate! Well done looks great.

Great job Tony. Machine polishing is very time consuming and can be back breaking.

I know about the back breaking bit Bill! When I did mine at Tonys i was crippled for a week afterwards from bending down to do the bottom of the doors.

Only do zeds mozz not oap motors =))

Too true about the backache felt as tho I had been kicked by a horse mostly across the back of my shoulders and neck all week, looks like it has impressed some of his friends might have a 61plate c250 merc to do could not have got anything harder to do for first job than black in for a penny in for a pound onwards and upwards cheers Tony.

That looks stunning @yocky z3 2.0
As @Grumpy said you were brave with the sand paper.
I know it's not exactly a light task after recently buying a d.a and setting to on my van and Sara's car. I didn't go to the length's you did but each motor took a very long day so hats off to you sir.

Steve

Thanks Steve befor my brother in law died a few years ago he used to have a body shop I used to spend all my spare time down helping him so have a bit of experience painting and polishing so did not jump in at the deepend,in fact the buffer ,compressor and spray guns I have got were his I am just a bit rusty it's worth all the backache when you see the finished result should have taken some befor pics

Sorry to hear about your bro in law.
At least you're putting all that hard earned knowledge to use that you gained from him .
As you say it is worth the achy bones when you stand back and see the results, mine could maybe be better but it was my first attempt .

Steve

As they say Steve practice makes perfect keep going till you get it right did my zed with meguires 105 and 205 mirror finish but did the coupe with menzerna products whitch I liked better not a pro but if I can earn a bit while leaning it all goes into the zed fund new exhaust ,new roof, new sills and to finish it off a royal steering wheel onwards and upwards cheers Tony.

I wonder what the going rate is for this sort of work nowadays?.

Steve

A full detail and paint correction specialist will charge anywhere upto 1500 depending on works done. It will also take anywhere from 40 to 80hrs

Very impressed @yocky z3 2.0, I've got two black cars and every little mark shows. I'm not sure how I'd get on with this sort of job on my car as I've got a dodgy back to start with!
