Hi guys,

Problem with the Z3, I jet washed the underside of the car before garaging it last autumn. Had it out for a few months and noticed when I first got it out there was a groaning/ creaking noise coming when turning low speed). This has just got progressively worse over summer, it seems to appear when the vehicle is warmed up.
It is also more common in reverse but does happen slow speed moving forwards, and when turning. The noise is accompanied by a slight vibration on the steering wheel. I guessed that I have washed out a lubrication from somewhere but the two things may not be related.
Any ideas, the friend I use to maintain my cars is stumped after changing front break discs and pads (he isn’t a BMW specialist just a mech at a local garage)

thanks in advance

Matt

Could be any of the bushings or drive shat rubber parts, remember also that when you turn the differential is differentiating and that could cause noise perhaps if the fluid was low (just a guess). Get the car on a lift and have a look around. Look for dried rubber parts, rubbing by tires at full lock, loose parts, the Guibo, and such stuff. Remember stress is put on the body suspension points when you turn the wheel so check the A-arm mounts etc, etc.

Depends on the noise, but I had a creaking on my old car. It was followed by a Big Bang eventually as the diff ripped itself from the car.
Worth checking the spot welds under the boot carpet.

Could also be a whole variety of things
