Just watched a programme that was shown on BBC 4 last week about the development of crash test dummies over the decades.
Seems like a remarkably dull subject, but, it was interesting, and at times, really rather sobering.
We’ve all seen footage from these test many times, but, it’s quite amazing how the science itself is making leaps to protect us all in the unthinkable. It shows in graphic detail the consequences of different kinds of impacts and why it’s important that we don’t abuse the safety built into our cars. The complexity of the technology helps show the energy and dynamics involved. Most surprising was that a near glancing blow of an accident is way more dangerous that a direct impact.
Well worth a watch purely for educational reasons.
Having played a real life crash test dummy, all that work is appreciated.
Stay safe out there.
