Hi. I have just joined the Club.
I have owned Betsy, an X Reg Topaz Blue 2.2 Z3 for the last 10 years and she has now done just over 32,000 miles.
Put the hood down today and the rear screen has cracked.
Looking on You Tube they show you how to replace a 'zip' type screen but my screen doesnt look the same.
Have I got one of the screens or a different type ?
Any help would be appreciated
Thanks
Lynn

If you have had the car for 10 years, it is probably the original screen and they were originally zip in. what looks different?
By the way :welcome: to the forum.

The only reason it would be any different is if it had been previously replaced and sown rather than zipped in.

Replacing is not as easy as the videos look unless you get lucky. The short answer is take it to Jack Smith’s in Swansea and get a whole new quality mohair roof/window for £330. Search for Jack Smith for testimonies including discussion from last few days.

I found it very easy and assumed I had got lucky but thats not the case, I am just very talented ;) that was until I pressed down on one of the corners and felt the zip give way, I think it was only one or two teeth out of line, thats how accurate it has to be, heed Roberts advice and get to Jack Smiths, I will be going this summer

Hello and :welcome: from Northern Ireland.
My rear window cracked recently, don't know if I'm brave enough to replace it myself.

Hi Lynn, and welcome from me in Cardiff. I went to Jack Smiths and replaced my roof for £300. The price may have gone up, but it's still worthwhile. They do a great job.

Hi, welcome from Mansfield.

I had the black roof on my Silver Z3 done by Jack Smith last year. Did a great job and would recommend him

Book in advance as he’s usually very busy.

Only thing is I wish I’d gone for a red roof on the Silver Z3.

I’ll be looking to get the beige roof on my Blue Z3 done soon, so will be booking that in with him.

I have had the rear screen checked and it appears I have to replace the beading that’s coming away. Does anyone know where to get one from that isn’t exorbitant?
Do Jack Smith replace when they change the screen?
I went to Mussels and sons in Godalming (only 30 mins away from me) and he said he can do it if I get it.
Any suggestions welcome please!
Ta
Lynn

Jack Smith will charge you £330 for an all new roof! Canvas, screen & beading :)

The beading is part of the screen. A new screen will cost £150-£250 depending on where you go. The smart money, if you can run to it, is to have the new roof.

Looking on Jack Smith comments page it says he only does MX5 and S2000 cars now. Anyone know if this is true?
