So I have one sizeable crack on one side and one teeny tiny crack on the other... I think I read somewhere that one of the benefits of fitting a strut brace helps prevent this but should I be worried now?

Think that's only in the sealant isn't it?
Just get it welded up, all will be fine.
Just had a quick chat with Lee to double check my own thinking. Initially it just looks like the sealant has gone, so would suggest scratching away the sealant and seeing what's underneath. If it is a crack then it just needs re-welding.

I would doubt it to be a structural crack, common on a 1977 MK2 escort but no so on a late 90's BMW. Fingers crossed for you mate.

Cheers not too worried ha but I'll have a scratch and sniff at the weekend.

As above Davy, sometimes the mastic dries and cracks and I would guess that's what you're seeing there. Either way even if it does need re-welding it's not the end of the world mate.
