Looking for help as always.

So yesterday the 1998 1.9 Z3 decided to cut out in a car park but I managed to get it parked, went shopping came back and it was fine.

Today I decided to take out the air filter and give it a clean and check the oil. I then took off the washer bottle gave it a clean and put it back on.

When out for a drive it felt a little sluggish and then lost power a few times and then coughed / popped several times from the exhaust. I drove it around for another twenty minutes and it felt fine.

I just wondered if I need to check anything further out?

Thank you.

It could be a number of things, the best way is to stick it on a code reader to see what comes up or it'll be guess work.

I had exactly same symptoms when the cam shaft sensor failed. Getting the codes read is sound advice.

You may well need one of these, too.
One of these, plus a five pound OBD to USB cable, plus a free Windows 10 download of BMW INPA (can find it on this forum) is my solution

Hooked up the Creator 310 code reader and there is a Code 70 Camshaft Postion Sensor, presuming it needs replacing and is it a straight forward job?
