I saw that tread researching. I could not believe that a factory defect could be the cause though considering this car has 220K+ miles showing on the odometer and its a 98 model. What are the odds it would last this long without a fan. Could be though that instrument cluster on the car is for a automatic trans so no telling what the real milage is or even if thats the original motor.
My car ran fine with that wiring for 100k miles - but had a viscous fan too. Only when the viscous failed did I look into the Aux fan.
Does yours have a viscous fan too?

Just the one fan. Thats it. I don't think the fan comes on period on mine. It might if I tried to wait long enough for that second temp level. to kick in with the temp switch.

Although I have completely jumped out the temp switch and can't get it to run at all now. Dont want to overheat the motor testing.

How have you jumped it out? It is a normally open Circuit which triggers one circuit at a certain temp range and another circuit at a higher temp range.

Temp switch has a 3 pin harness. Pulled Harness and jumped pins that I wanted to connect with connector wire. One pin has 10.9V another 5V and one pin has 0V and continuity with harness fan relay slots in both high and low sides.

I assumed the temp switch just makes a connection from 12V or 5V to open circuit when a temp has reached certain temp otherwise just remains open. When I close the circuit with either 5 or 11 volt pin that is when I loose voltage and go to 0V. . If I remove the connector wire voltage returns. This happens with or without fan relay it the slot.
