Seriously thought about buying another and swapping all my new parts over. Space is the issue though and what to do with the shell.

You can put in an additive to the coolant that changes colour in the presence of combustion gases - i.e those being passed from cylinder to coolant via the crack. Don't waste your time having it welded. Although not the reason for replying I do have a good used head. As others say, if the car is that bad you may be better cutting your losses. If replacing head ensure they use oem quality head gasket/stretch bolts i.e Elring, Victor Reinz, Payen. And for goodness sake don't let them tell you it's o.k to re-use stretch bolts If you fit another head that should be the only additional cost to you with them providing labour / parts, at least then you have a running car to do as you wish with.
How much do you want for it and is it a 1.9 m43tu head?

Yes the M43TU single cam head, complete. No known issues, should be flat but get an engineers straight edge on it, at the worst £40 for a skim but you would have to take valves out first. Might be able to get mating surface checked for you first to save you doing it. £125 sound fair ? plus carriage if you cannot pick up.
I didn't reply to hopefully sell a head by the way, I bought a zed with head gasket issues some time back and turned out to have the crack on number 2 so been there got the T shirt etc :)
Sounds good to me.
