That’s due to shrinkage over the years and the roof not being treated/sealed.

Not sure how it can be repaired but if it can be, someone on here will know.

Mine was doing the same thing along the top tried several different things all eventually gave way.
Ended up using a silicone adhesive which has held fine .
Only thing is would be difficult to remove as its similar thing to what bonds windscreens.
But I reckon on mine its original roof and screen so it either went would be looking to replace the roof.

I had the same issue. I used a small bottle of contact cement, with the built-in brush on the cap. Tape around the window (to protect against drips), and then brush on both sides (under the fabric and the rubber). LET THE CEMENT DRY on each surface for 15 minutes . . and then just press to two surfaces together using your finger. Instant Bond!!

Thanks Greg for your replly. Contact cement was used by the previous owner and is now comming apart. I have been recommended to use Casco Marin & Teknik (dont know the english name). So far I have not applied it as I have been busy by removing the old contact cement which is not that easy.

I also had a similar issue with the fabric shrinking around the lower corner and creeping along the length. Tried several types of glue without success, I think the only permanent solution is a new hood although very expensive. I cured mine by using a curved needle and stitching and thereby pulling together the two sections of hood and then sealing with some black silicon, I also stitched in blocker knots at each end to prevent it spreading. The repair has worked fine but does not look very nice but since I only use the car in good weather with the hood down its doesnt really matter.

I've got the same problem on my 20 year old hood but sometimes the more you do the worse it looks so I've not attempted anything. I call it fair wear and tear and I agree that if you try to glue it down you could have a problem replacing the back window. My focus is on what the car looks like with the top down and keepingit watertight. On aother point, when I got my car there were a few places where the stitches had worn through but without losing tension. I thought that a strong fabric glue might lock the stitches into the fabric so I treated these areas with "STORMSURE" clear glue. Two years on the stitches remain good. Yes you can see a slight discolouration where the glue was applied but the overall impression is still good. I'll see what it loos like after I treat it with Renovo Reviver, it's blue.

For me its not a major problem as I also mostly use the car with the top down. But I like to have the car in a nice condition so I will have a go with the Casco Marin & Teknik (black) as sonn as I manage to get rid of the nasty contact cement. I promise to post a picture as soon as the job is done.

What sort of treatment is needed to prevent this? This is my first convertible, so all this is new to me...

Any repair is a patch-up. With other ageing/wear factors likely to be present but maybe unseen. Shrinkage is inevitable with a 20 year roof and not reversible.

In the UK a new roof covering & window is £330 at a place many of us use in the west of the UK. So people tend to go towards that.

Nothing wrong with gluing it for the time being. Someone will make a good suggestion which glue. I use black Stormsure for plugging up the A-pillar bungs. So I expect the clear version of that could be a good bet for the seam.
