Hi BMW / Z3 friends

I have owned my lovely Z3 for 8 months now and am loving it - I'm sure you all understand :) However, the hydraulic roof motor has recently failed and though I can use it in manual mode, it just isn't the same :(
Can anyone point me in the right direction, or has one available/for sale - part number 54348410305.

Many thanks,

Cathy.

This may seem like a daft question Cathy, but, why do you think the pump has failed please? I only ask as its extremely rare, in fact I can't remember the last time someone enquired after one.

To answer both questions; I am located in Warwickshire. The electric roof failed and my local garage replaced 2 relays which got it working again but they advised the motor was slow and may not be long for this world. The roof has now failed again and there is no noise from the motor at all which is why I am assuming (!!) it is a motor failure as predicted by my garage?

Also, thank you both for the speedy reply. This is the first time I have posted and I will do so more often now as well as making full use of the site.

You can disconnect the hydraulic ram from the roof frame and if you do that and lift the roof manually it should be relatively easy to do. If it is stiff to move that would indicate some of the hinges in the roof frame could be seized and this in turn could damage the motor.

Like Tony I agree pump failure is unusual.

However if you are convinced it’s this I may have one for sale so PM me. I might need it myself though and won’t know until Sunday.

Hi from Mansfield. Don't these pumps carry fluid? Could it be possible it's level is down causing it to stop working?

I would check the microswitch is still working before looking at the pump. Pumps don't often fail, microswitches do. It's located on the passenger side in the frame above the middle of the window. You can bypass it by disconnecting and joining the wires together to test if its working or not.

Do your brake lights work also, if not this could be the culprit.
