Constant knocking

My Z4 2006 2.5si has developed a knocking noise all bushes and brackets are fine it sounds and feels like it is coming from the drivers side of the dashboard any suggestions kind regards Aiyona Hunt

When do you get the sound? Rough ground , turning the wheel , braking, does the steering feel strange ?

Common problem are broken springs with the Z4. There is another forum ,www.z4-forum.com/forum that may help.

Steering braking everything is fine if the road has imperfections it knocks it's like something has come loose when you pull off the drive it knocks

When i pull of the drive it knocks then if the road is uneven it becomes a constant knock but you don't hear it when going over speed ramps

It sounds like it might be an anti roll bar link thats worn this would cause a knock when the wheels move independently.

If in doubt go get a free estimate from your local friendly garage (or 2 for a consensus) and then come back here for advice on way forward

When the wheels both move at the same time over a hump the whole anti roll bar moves so no clunk.
Over an uneven surface the bar is twisting left to right so you will hear a knock.
I've had this on a few cars and not an expensive fix hope its your problem

This is my baby and she's unwell developed a knocking noise bought some new anti rollbar links but the noise seems to be come from behind the dashboard

There is a bearing in the upper steering column which is in the dashboard. With the steering column unlocked, engine off move the wheel towards you and up and down to check for abnormal play. In the engine bay is an intermediate steering shaft which has two joints. The top one can easily be checked for wear.
