some people latch on to some odd things to fret about. If after the bottle of wine and smoothing words it doesn't calm his anger tell him he won't be able to see it because of the long wheelbase Sprinter van that will be parked in front of it

If he continues on about the four year old I'd have some serious safeguarding concerns.

I was just thinking you had been to charm school after your first post - and then this =))
Much more civilised and calm now I'm in my 50's Ian. Still allow myself to think it though. Not that I've nailed any 4 year olds to people's front doors you understand ;)

Maybe it nothing to do with the actual Zeds being there, but the fact that you work on your cars on the drive. A chat about the situation face to face would be the best thing as the written word by email, text etc. can be read so many ways, often the wrong way. It is your drive and I get the sense that this latest Z will not be the last so trying to work this out before it blows in to something it's not. Good luck.

Definitely best to talk face to face Rob. When we first got married we both knew our next door neighbour well, we bought our land from him but I said to him " Ron, if there's something going on at our house which annoys or bothers you, tell me please. If I don't know about it I cant do anything about it" Talking will be the best option, explain that when the car(s) is/are mobile you can move them. He's running a business from his house, maybe that's against the rules too? Does he pay business rates?

Tony.

This is the problem with these new build estates. What ever happened to pulling off the road onto your driveway? My mother in law has no end of problems with here neighbours over parking issues. They are the last two house in a row that comes to a dead holt like a lot do now days. They both have double length garages and a drive for 1 car and own 7 vehicles between them. My father in law all but killed the son that came round kicking of once. You do not mess with my father in law, he is rather handy lol!!

There's a few ways to sort this,

Try the good neighbour approach, chat over a beer or cuppa, or buy him a bottle of wine as has been suggested, and / or you could put a cover over the cars.

If he lets his 4yr old play out unsupervised, why not report him to the social services ?

If all else fails just tell him to "Go and f*** himself"

That sounds like Kirkby

As for parking on the road, it's a difficult one. One one hand you can park anywhere you like on the road - nobody has any legal right to park outside their own home. But, equally it helps to get on with your neighbours.
We have 4 cars all of which I can get off the road. But, frequently, two have to be parked out on the road so we have access to the garage. I try to keep parking in front of the neighbours to a minimum and moves cars ASAP.
The house over the road frequently has 4 to 6 cars and two vans and something is often parked right on the corner of the close opposite us and makes is hard for us to pull on to our drive without manoeuvring in the road.

Houses aren't built with having so many cars. Just have to get on with it.

Tell them to mind their own business - I used to get it with one of my neighbours - we had 3 cars on the drive and the other 2 on the kerb outside our house in the turning circle - they used to whinge that the turning circle was not for me to park on (even though there was plenty of space to turn).

....odd how they never seem to take ownership of that same area when it snows and I'm the one who shovels it all away for everyone.

At my Parent's house it's just the 2 houses at the top of a cul-de-sac. I keep apologising to the neighbours for having to look at the breaker which I try to keep tidy looking from the outside but it is looking a bit sorry for itself now. She keeps on saying not to worry and how wonderful they think it is what I'm doing saving other Z3s with the spares from it. Her son has an M3 btw...

I'll be honest, my normal reaction would be to tell people to mind their own business. But both cars need to be moved on as it's much more practical working round my Mum and Dad's house as it's much bigger than mine and has a garage.

So it suits to me to act a bit hard done by and say, fine I'll get both moved on in the next few weeks and stop any work there. Perfectly happy to let them feel bad about that and the wheel as they say turns.

And by the way. Someone suggested getting a dirty great van. I'm looking at selling my Alhambra and getting a 3 Series Gran Tourismo. So I want something to replace the carrying ability of the Alhambra and then some. I want something that will carry Z3 bonnets and tow as well. So I will be buying a van and it will be parked where the Z3s are now. I think white vans are a bit boring and I have my eye on a bright yellow ex-DHL wagon from a specialist in the north midlands. Seriously!

I did say the wheel turns...

Doesn't matter where you live you'll find someone will complain. The more you pay for your house the more chance you'll be among the people who believe they bought into your road to have everything looking perfect at all times just the way the builders portrayed it in their brochure. Shame it seems a bit of snobbery still exists.
We pays our money but alas we can't choose our neighbors, best just live and let live, if we can't do that we can allways "MOVE"and MOVE and MOVE, some people would be better off buying a field and building a house right in the middle.
Me!!! I'm not one of them, I'm the one they're all complaining about.=))

Not expecting that the image of two or three Zeds together, can hurt somebody...
And I was so decided to ask a tax deduction for using the car on the roads,:D because I always believed the Zed beautifies any road/street image...:) Now I'm so confused....
Try to negotiate your peace of mind with the "awkward" neighbor ...after all it's your neighbor...

Love that pic Andy, but it don't get you off the hook.

You know what they say, " if you can't beat em join em" so next time you see the farmer give him a bottle of wine, do a deal and purchase a few cows and chickens plus the noisy cock, so when your awoken at least you'll be assured the fox hasn't got your investment, will make it all seem worth while living there. Must say youd probably make a good farmer looking at you as would your brother.=))

Feeling real sorry for myself missing this one Tony, been putting outside lights up, getting it all down from the loft and helping decorate the tree, then and only then did I dare go collect my cam senser at 4pm, so too late to fit it, should be on first thing in morning. You've obviosly had a busy day on your busmans day off, another happy Z'er thanks to you, well done.
