hello everyone,

I have been looking around but can't find a new thread on code readers.

I currently have a DSC yellow light on in my Z3. I want to know what it is. I have been looking at the Peake coder? Will this be sufficient to diagnose any current and furture aka all codes. If not can you please recommend some for a 2000 BMW Z3.

Thank you,

Just learned that this is a BMw specific reader. If anyone recommends a generic read all Please do so. Thanks

I have a peake fcx r5 seems pretty good doesn't read abs codes that's the only issue. I'm sure there will be a cheaper generic option that will be just as good, someone will be along shortly who's got one to advise.

The C110 code reader is pretty widely used on here with decent success. Found you some links from US eBay to give you the idea - although search around as you may get it cheaper. The second link is for a converter cable which allows you to connect to the round connector under the bonnet to access all available features (limited access through the OBD2 port under the steering wheel only)

My brother has a C110 that he keeps in his 1 Series. We've used it with good effect not just on his 1 Series but on the Z3s too when I've been ready to jump up and down on the laptop/INPA.

I've certainly used it to reset an airbag light which is just code driven. I've not used the tool extensively as I normally use INPA but on the basis it can do an airbag light that defeats some tools I would say yes.

What kind of money is the Peake selling for as I have a C110 unused so far and also have a Peake R5/FCC which I will sell. It came with a wheel and some other parts I purchased a while back! Let me know if you or anyone else is interested. JIM

I am not sure what the used price is but the Peake is going for $139 (Amazon and another site). The peake seems amazing for BMWs but get constant review of people getting other readers thay can be used on various brands of cars, like the C110.

I got this one because it does what I need it to do and I can use on my other car. Best bet woild probably be to throw it on ebay imo.

I was impressed with the C110 when I bought one last year. Easy to use and reliable.

And it was all the rave review by you and other member that prompted me to order mine @Redline. Also the reason my Peake is up for grabs sort of. Don't know what a fair price to ask would be though so probably will keep it! JIM

I don't have mine near by but did read the manual when I bought it. It is fairly clearly written and I don't think you will have any problems connecting. Did you buy the one that comes with the extra cord with the round end that you'll need to connect to the twenty pin connection on the side of the engine. The underdash outlet if you have one doesn't provide all the faults, you need to go into the engine compartment as I said for a complete report. HTH. JIM

As Jim said - it's straight forward. Just follow the instructions and give it time to do its job. Ignition on but engine not running should be fine but am sure I've also used it engine running.
