At least you can see the fault mate with the friction disc showing shiny rivets. ;) and you're halfway to fixing the problem. There's always an upside:thumbsup:

Very true.
Just got the problem with the box to sort now. Had it looked at today. Needs new seal and mail bearing.
Surprised how many places won't touch bmw gearboxes.

I'm assuming it's the main bearing. I've never done it on my BMW. Do you have to split the case to get to it? In the meantime, will you put in a new clutch plate, throw out bearing and pressure plate since you have them off or at least can get to them? Will you have the flywheel resurfaced or buy a new one? I think that we use dual mass flyweels. Would you stay with that or switch to a single mass flywheel?.........................Frankie.
PS. I was wondering if you replaced the master clutch cylinder when you did the slave cylinder. I replaced the master clutch cylinder when I did the slave cylinder and it was a MAJOR PAIN IN THE A$$. I watched a video of a mechanic do it and after he was done, he said: "I'll never do that again". That's the way I feel about it. I'll go out and work somewhere for a week or so for the money to have a qualified mechanic do it than go through that again!!~~.........Frankie

When you say there is clutch drag, I assume you have removed the clutch delay valve? These are located on the end of the hose and are designed to slowely release the hydraulic pressure, the do take a bit of getting used too.

Whilst it's all off I'm doing it all as the work involved was horrendous to get the box off, worst one I've done so far.
Changing to a SMF was going to get a lightened ACT clutch and flywheel but the cost of box repair has stopped that plus i don't it's worth it on that engine.
The dmf seems fine but i don't trust it. Might as well replace it at 125k miles while i have it all out.
Got the engine out too for a rebuild.

I only did the slave, hope i never have to do the master now lol.

The tranmission place said it's the main bearing plus it needs new seals.

I've read that some gearboxes need a large press to put them back together again.

This is because there are some diaphragm springs inside to stop noise.

I'd do some proper research (like getting hold of the Getrag / ZF manual for the box) before attempting disassembly.

I won't even attempt to mess with it.
Dropped it off at DMD transmissions in Wolverhampton this afternoon for them to fix.

Found a chunk of alloy in there. Wondered why it started making a clattering sound.
Wanted to up load a vid of the shaft problem but it won't let me.
