One more clueless post from me for tonight.

What the heck is this in the bottom corners of the windscreen?

It's not mist or condensation. It's always there.

The missus thinks its fungus and is threatening to call in rentokil to satisfy her cleanliness OCD.

Not an expert but I think that's moisture that has got into the bonding and into the laminate of the windscreen. Had the same on my Galaxy for nearly 10 years.

The screen has started to delaminate.

Thanks chaps. She's now worried the windscreen is going to fall apart. But if you had it on your Galaxy for 10 years that seems unlikely...

Won't fall out any time soon but worth getting it checked out for piece of mind :)

In fairness I'm doing the car up for her son and not me. So if we think there is any risk I'll get it looked at.

If you remove the trim from around the screen Rob, you'll likely find a chip or small crack in the bottom edge of the glass. Water can get in and even frost can cause that type of damage.

Tony.

Might be the time to accidentally drop a club hammer onto the windscreen!

Bonzo.

Thanks @t-tony no doubt you've seen a few like this over the years!

I have previous for smashing a Z3 screen. Just let a wiper arm ping back without the rubber blade on. That was very much an accident though!

A kid who used to work at our place once did a similar thing on a car in for service, he removed the knackered wiper blades and lef the arms up, lifted the bonnet and lo and behold the screen was cracked.

Tony.

I just lost the grip on mine. I would recommend putting a car mat on the screen before starting just in case.

This is very very common on old Mercs. Moisture has got between the laminates of the screen. I've got it on my old Merc. There is no danger of the glass popping out, but your call if you want to get it checked

No need to break it i'm sure a blown screen is good enough for a replacement mine just had road rash and was good enough for a claim :)

The best road rash is caused by a wayward club hammer!
