Closing the door on 2017

Well the end of another year is upon us all. I for one won't be to upset about leaving this one behind. It's been a hard slog and with recently losing a member of the family it's not been a great end to the year.
We have big plans for 2018 and i am reallly excited about the coming year. We are selling the house to buy a house to do up and get mortgage free. This in turn will allow me to reduce my hours at work and have more time with Jue and the zed. Happy days ahead!!
What have you unruley lot got planned???

Sounds like a great plan for the new year Grumps and i for one would understand the excitment of that plan, alot of work in renovating a house but alot of satisfaction when done.
Just finish a kitchen refit here but compared to what was it looks great.

Making a house a home under your own steam is alot of work but the rewards are greater.
Been a bad year for us too Sally losing her farther very suddingly and then losing one of the cats too in very unfortunate circumstances. Injuring myself and going through the processes in recovery its really not been a great one.
Shutting the said door on this one will be good and moving forward in to the next will be welcomed here too with positivity as to what will come.

We moved into a run down bungalow nearly 5 years ago
It was 1960 so it had to have everything done to it
All we're been left with are the walls and windows
Every thing else has been replaced
Alan done nearly all the work his self

Right O. 30th Wedding Anniversary this year, was planning a week in a posh tree house in Italy but work has kicked that into touch so Paris it is. There's a 3 hour coach tour of Paris that serves a 4 course meal whilst on the move with wine to suit, upper deck, so we hope to do that. Northumberland for a week in a log cabin in August then Rome for 4 nights in October (both family hols). Work will take me to France, UK, Sweden, Switzerland and maybe Pakistan as it stands. New sports seats for Bella (currently being refurbed) and various cables. First wax post respray in Feb, all excited

Other than that, just plodding along and hoping for the best.

@Grumps sounds like you have some exciting plans for 2018. I’m a qualified sparky and do a fair amount of carpentry and other bits. So give me a shout if you need an extra pair of hands with the new place.

@Antm72 loving the lines and colours of the new kitchen

@Andy McDonnell sounds like you have a good year planned for 2018, and with some great countries you visiting (even if it’s for work).

We’re planning some trips around England and Wales, mainly long weekends. Looking forward to the cruises around the Lakes, Scotland and if possible a road trip to Austria.
The misses is planning a large family holiday to Greece, so as long as it’s all inclusive and has a bar by the pool I’m happy to stay out of the way lol

Nothing big planned for me apart from 2 weeks all inclusive holiday in Fuerteventura , however I'm sure the wife has something big planned, she has been a bit cagey for over a year now and 2018 seems to be the time as she has put one or two messages in cards and on FB suggesting that its going to be the year,

We revamped our downstairs 3 years ago. Did all the work except the skimming myself.
Dining room had a new floor

Knocked the 2 reception rooms into one and put a new false ceiling up

Revamped the Kitchen

Then did the patio

Will be starting on the upstairs hopefully 2018

If i get my arse into gear it will be. Need to gut the Bathroom and 3 bedrooms need all the plaster off and redoing all the lighting is to get replaced to give me a Neutral at the switch for Home automation and to go Led spots, the stairs have to be de-plastered and redone along with the ceiling and loft hatch. Trying to get all the work completed in the next couple of years so i only have the outside rendering to do before i sell up and retire

Awsome work and transformation very posh great if your handy and can do a lot of the DIY yourself really cuts the bills down on labour.

I think @Grumps will find great satisfaction doing a doer upper up. One word of warning just make sure to search high and low for how you want things to be. We visited loads of tile places and only bought the tiles if we could find show rooms with them laid. Furniture came direct from Germany and Italy as we could not find the quality we wanted over here. I have been visiting Bath centres on and off for months and always take photos if i am either in a Hotel or fancy toilets for inspiration

The hardest thing i found was digging up the concrete from the dining room and humping it into the skip. My back was killing for months afterwards

I also did the electrics as i wanted to future proof for home Automation which i now have a small part Automated. Can turn lights and Heating on remotely and my Alarm and Fire Alarm alerts me when it triggers i can also look at any cameras and take still photos at the time of events. Not that it helps.
I also have the TV connected to a server so i can view photos and videos
