Trying to install a new clutch master cylinder in my Z 3. Removed the Clevis pin retainer clip and the clevis pin is supposed to "slide" out. Can't budge it. Can there be anything else holding it? Frustrated Frankie
It doesn't appear to be threaded. There's no hex head on the other side of the pin. Just a flat top. It actually appears to be splined. FrankieIs it screwed on?
I did not remove the pipe where it goes through the firewall to the slave ciyl. However, I removed the 2 mounting bolts and the cylinder moves freely back and forth. I tried to pull it away from the firewall so as to get a vice grip below the connection so I could release the pin that holds the end of the pipe of the master cylinder and not allow the connection to fall back through the firewall but I couldn't pull it towards me too far because the clevis pin is still attached to the clutch pedal. The part of the pin that holds the retaining clip has enough sticking out away from the pedal for me to get a heavy pair of pliers on it and get a good grip. I tried to rotate the pin thinking if I could do this, then it would be free to slide out or be tapped out. No go. It wouldn't even rotate. I sprayed some wd-40 on it. Perhaps it will loosed after a while. Its getting late and I might have to get back to it tomorrow. FrankieIf it moves at all you may have to apply some light pressure on the clutch pedal because the pin may have a wear groove round it, stopping it sliding out. Have you undone the pipe to the slave cylinder to release the pressure in the pipe too?
Tony.
The bixxh of it is, is that you don't have any room to take a swing at it. There are harness wires 2 inches away and I don't want to mess them up. I managed to get a small swing at it. I know that it I tap at it long enough without getting crazy, it will eventually give. I just don't look forward to having to 'tap' it a thousand times, especially when you're an old guy whose got his head stuck under the steering wheel. Frankiesounds like WD-40 overnight and give it a "wallop" tomorrow. Clevis pin should rotate freely.
