There are no clear pre face lift lenses unfortunately. A bit extreme but if one could be sourced cheaply could a swap to a post face lift boot lid be possible?
Could be the easiest way actually, especially if you found one with the clear light in place!

That's an interesting idea but one problem is color match - BMW changed a lot of the colors between facelift i.e. Montreal blue became topaz, then there are two types of red, perhaps silver stayed the same?

The facelifts also got the chrome pull tab/ring thing around the boot release.

Bootlids are usually undamaged so usually plentiful.

that would be the biggest issue, colour.

the chrome pull is actaully an accessory and should be available as a seperate piece :)

Still have the headlight reno kit so will take the back light out and buff before buying new. Feeling the need to spend though.

If the lens part of the facelift model is the same as the pre facelift could you not swap them over?

It has crossed my mind Dave but I think they differ. Something do simple becomes sooooo difficult!

On the darker cars some Laminx film over the lense may look better than a clear lense. Gives a light tint to darken the red (but not make it black) and will give the shine back back to the dull plastic.
Or polish the plastic and put clear Laminx over to give the original color and keep it from dulling.

I have taken @M666BMG advice and used a mild abrasive and buffed up the plastic lens. It isn't perfect but then again it looks like the original light making it 17 years old. However it does look much improved.

Old thread but still relevant.

So in conclusion is a clear third brake light available at all either from BMW or aftermarket for a pre facelift Z3?
