Well, progress so far.....
View attachment 97640
Started using 240 grit (dry) to remove the lacquer coat, then 400, 600 and 1200 with water.
Bought a cheap Toolstation polishing kit ( 3 mops and 2 polishing sticks) and have given it a basic polish so far.
And now looking much better.

The idea is to etch prime the infill, then top coat infill with tannin red ( or as close as I can get), then mask it all up and relacquer the plate.

Had to use a mains drill for the polishing mop as my battery one just not powerful enough.
Primer from screwfix.
That looks great! What an improvement. Would you post a "How To Guide" for us, please?

Did a bit more polishing this morning, then masked the easy bit on the passenger side to see if it will work.
First coat of the primer went down and peeled the masking off to see what the edge was like.
Seems ok, so will have to remask for the next coat, and then spend hours masking the ‘ roadster’ part. :banghead: (As I’m crap at free hand painting)

Why do I make so much work for my self=))

Anyway a couple of pictures of progress,

Looking good. I’m going to make a start on mine, however, I’m in discussions with a graphic company we deal with at work to see if they can come up with a solution

As the roadster writing is indented, wouldn’t you just be able to paint the section without masking and then use sandpaper to remove the paint from the raised sections?

I did think of that but the indent is only about 0.5mm

I also thought of rubbing a candle over the top to stop the paint sticking .......but that was a crap idea !!!!=))

Been doing bits over the the last couple of days, and managed to paint the roadster indent ( albeit had to do a lot of cleaning round the letters) , but looking at it this morning decided .........No Dont like it:banghead:, so cleaned all the paint off with white spirit and a rag.
I think now I will polish out as much as I can, then put a lacquer coat on, and keep it as the original look.

So all those that thought painting it was a crap idea.....you were right =))........

I tried hand painting and hated it, I also went to a sign place to see if they could produce a decal that would fit but they didn't seem intersted, even though I said I would take a run of 50 pairs

I’ll wait for the finished item first but I’ll definitely keep you informed even if it’s a no go

Look good, how are you attaching them? Do they go over the originals or do you remove the original ones? Please keep us posted with how this goes and costs.
