Hi Everyone. How easy is it to take the cigarette lighter out of the Z3. Mines not working and I though I'd fit a usb socket in it's place. Any tips on removing the centre consul . Thanks in advance.
 
No need to take out the centre consul, it just slides out. A couple of clips that you press in on the inside and it'll slide out.
 
You don't need to remove the centre console to remove the cigarette lighter, it should just pull out, and then you can disconnect the wires
 
Thanks for replying. I thought it was held in from the back as previous cars I've had. I'll give it ago tomorrow
 
Mine is a bit slack and comes out when I don't want it out, so I can assure you it just pulls.

The USB adapter I got was genuine BMW 2 socket from eBay at around £23 , ( BMW direct or main deale) accepted this is dear , but it charges very quickly and a friend had a cheap usb main adapter from eBay that went on fire , so I have become rather carefull in these type of items now.

I do not have the knowledge to see if they are unsafe or ok

This adapter actually just pushed into the cigarette lighter but it's a flush finish not sticking way out of the opening,and the finish goes well with the steel instrument panels

You get what your pay for generally, buy cheap electrical goods from China = Fire.
 
Yes a bit worrying going to investigate why mines not working. Anyone know where the fuse is. I'm new to the z3.
 
Well that was simples. Drill bit (wrapped in tape!) Down the hole twiddled about a bit. A liberal squirt of eleccy contact cleaner and Robert is your mother's brother.
