Chrome Hoops

Guys retrofitting Chrome hoops the type that means you loose the storage compartment. Seem to be a tight fit lol anyone any tips?

I ended up waiting for my son to get home on Sunday evening to help. The bar would slide in either side easily but not both together. What i had to do was start both sides and gey him to pull down on tge sidecof the hoop while i pursaded it in with a block of wood wrapped in a towel and a lump hammer. A bit each side in turn till it was right in.

I had to saw a slot in the upstand tubes to get mine in there, just allowed the tubes to expand a touch to get them to fit inside then tapped down using a block of wood.

I borrowed a drum sander kit from a mate and used that to smooth the insides of the tubes.

Had a go this afternoon. Cut two slots in the two tubes in the car. Tried prying them open with a pry bar but so far no lock. The bar is hitting off the edge of the tube.

Sounds like you need more than two slots in each upstand tube to get them to spread enough to get the roll bar tubes started then tap them in with a lump hammer on some wood to avoid damage to the chrome or stainless.

My Z3 was a face lift car and I had the opposite problem. I had a ratchet strap round the outside of the bars to compress them to get them into the tubes.

Ended up getting the finder out and grinding the bottom of the bars to fit. Once that was done the squeezed down in with persuasion of the hammer and block.

Thanks @ViperKen in my opinion it’s worth it, they look the part.

I used a drum sander on an electric drill to smooth out the tubes on my Z3.

This what I bought a couple of weeks ago but it's the same type of sander I used when fitting the hoops.
