Christmas working banter (removed from event thread)

I agree mate, I put extra hours in because it's a hobby and interest my job.

I have found my job soul mate.

Not many do!

Ps I do like a nurses outfit!
Well there you go for the EAC party, pull the nursey outfit from your other closet and don't forget pics for HT! lol JIM

I am on call over Xmas and always volunteer to do call out Xmas Day, I have done this for the last 6 years and have never been called out and i get another days holiday for doing it. (more hols for the summer) The only down side is i can not drink Xmas Day just in case i do get called out

I don't think it's about being told you are working on Xmas day, if a company decides to open Xmas day, then it's working days are Xmas and the employee should be flexible, if the employee doesnot want to work Xmas, then they should find a job where the company or industry does not work Xmas, again it is about choices, and those that don't make the right ones or don't make them find there lot in life unjust, and blame the company, it makes me mmmmmmad, the people that want it handed to them on a plate...
Have to disagee with you. An old company I worked for had offered for us to put holidays in to cover some days off over Christmas. Being the chilled food industry then obviously it doesn't get much of a break, I had stated if I could take Xmas and boxing days off I'd happily work the rest which at the time they were more than happy with having coverage through the period between Xmas and new year including new yes eve and new years day. When I returned to the yard at 6pm on Xmas eve I was told work loads had changed and they needed me in at 2am boxing day morning! I'm sure I don't need to state on here what was said but hasten to add there were a few words exchanged and Dave didn't go to work on boxing day morning!

I think you proved my point quite eloquently, you made your choice, plus gave the company some future intelligence no doubt...

Christmas time is over rated commercialized bull carp these days, you can congregate any day of the year to have a family gathering, dinner etc (and the obligatory fight)
I know that kids love it, as I was a kid once, but that is all it is, a kids party.
I would rather work straight through the whole lot and take the time off when it suited me.
Yeah, I know, bah humbug...!!

Me too Ebeneezer!

Tony.

theres plenty of days to go shopping cant people just have 2 days without shopping. yes emergency services have to be covered, but the greed of these companys making employers work over the xmas period without even paying them extra in some cases . let people be with there familys.

Too right Pete, Families come first at Christmas, not Profit!! this used to be a christian country and Christmas counted. It is two days you should spend with your family.

I would agree with those sentiments Mike as I made the same ones the other night, however I was corrected, so now I think I must have been living a dream these last 59 years! Oh, and the bible must be a figment of some ones imagination.:)

What's Christmas got to do with Christians? It was a pagan festival, popularised by the ancient Romans, who took a week off from the 17th to the 25th for debauchery and general mayhem, as a consequence all courts and shops were closed, and no one could be punished for a crime during this period, perhaps we should return to the true meaning of Christmas, hail Ceasar...

Steady ;)

I love having Christmas with my family :p
It's so quiet on Christmas morning until my daughter gets to ours with her family and the grandchildren are all hyper it's lovely , but when she goes at about 6-7 I'm already to have a sit down =))
Then it's all quiet again :)
She often comes round for dinner but at Christmas it's a different atmosphere........ :)
So magical ;)

Yep totally agree with that Jim. Of course, doctors, nurses, all emergency services, prison service etc etc etc have to operate. That goes without saying but the likes of the co-op, McDonalds, KFC should keep their doors shut until the 27th to allow people to spend time with their families.

Yes I agree with you too @Grumpy :p
When I was a little girl I can remember the shops being shut for a few days and no busses running etc ;)
It should be like that now :)
Bring back the good old days ;)
