PART 1: The last project of the year got off to a good start. @Saul Hillier approached me at Vanity asking for some Zedshed help. He had everything ordered so just needed a hand with what order to fit everything. This 2.2 has been so well looked after it's just as clean on the underside as it is on the inside. Once we had removed the waxoil off the underside it revealed pristine nuts n bolts to remove, pure joy!

Order of events: 1) Remove the exhaust system
2) Removed Arch Liners both sides
3) Removed spare wheel carrier
4) Removed the prop shaft nuts
5) Removed the roll bar complete
6) Drop both swing arms from the shocks
7) Disconnect brakes lines and blank
8) Disconnect the handbrake cables from the car
9) Removed fish plates from the main beam
10) Loosen diff bolt and beam bolts ready for removal
11) Lower subframe complete to the floor

This is the typical order of events, quite a few of these happen at the same time with multiple people working on the car.

Sauls 2.2 has a full Aero body kit with looks great, also a fully sprayed up engine bay. This could very much be a show car.

Look at that engine bay!

A rare shot of the exhaust coming off in one.

It took us the best part of 2/12 - 3 hours to fully strip the beam down. This is a very quick tear down because of how tidy everything is.

We quickly stripped down the subframe so it could be cleaned easier.

The only casualty of the day was a rusty exhaust bracket.

Saul was chomping at the bit to use his £9 lidl grit blaster so we left him to it.

Old bushes removed some new colorful bits ready to be fitted.

We ended the day with Saul removing a Microwave from his boot (not kidding) and making us all lunch round 13:30. He took my compressor with him and planned to clean up and re paint all the subframe components between now and next Saturday.

Watch this space.

I wonder how effective the grit blaster has been? I was put off using one by Machine Mart as they said it wasn’t effective unless you spent £1k plus on a compressor.

I think I’d wear a mask btw.

It's very effective, the half of the diff has been blasted. Now being prepped for paint.

This was moments after initially testing. Masks are just out of shot.

What a joy to work on, everything was a dream to take apart! That said, as expected it's the usual bits that need replacing so no surprises in the work to be carried out. The beam bushes were shot, and were a few thousand miles from being sat on the bottom plate and the diff bush core popped out with a light tickle with the pry bar.

Saul's attention to detail is impressive, as are his cooking skills

What sort of capacity/output is your compressor?

My compressor is only a baby, it runs at max of 8Bar. This blaster had nozzle attachments so you held it against the area being blasted this also allowed the grit to be collected in the bag and not spray out to atmosphere that much. Very low mess.

P.S gun only needs 6 bar to operate.

Same output as mine then. Mine is a Tiger 16/510.

Might have to give it a go after all. All we have left to do on our rear end refurb now is the diff.

Me thinks a grit blaster from santa would be niece:thumbsup:
Oh most compressors are set to 8 to 10 bar at manufacture, for health and safety reasons, its the CFM that gives the constant air flow to make a good compressor fit for spraying or other applications.

Oh great looking Zed

You need CFM and a larger capacity tank too so that the compressor can keep ahead of the air used.

Tony.

Strangely it was fine for the 30mins we used it. The pump kicked in only a couple of times.

The pressure is one thing, the Cubic Feet Per minute is another entirely. The Grit blaster obviously doesn't use many CFM.

Yeah I agree, considering its a sandblaster it has a very small aperture on the end. Personally I'm not convinced on it, I prefer locking it in a case and doing it the industrial way.
