My Z3 is the third two seater convertible I have either owned or regular access to.

The first was a red MX5 (ex wife's actually)
The second a red Alfa Spider.
Third and current red Z3.

Red is a favourite and they don't do many in yellow!

Anyway the times I drove the MX5 it never got any attention.
The Alfa got an awful lot of attention and was likened to a Ferrari on two occasions.

The Z3 though not likened to any Ferrari (or expensive BMW) still gets plenty of attention.
Just last night I am dropping my fiancee off for work, she's a carer so it's not always the same place. Anyway there were a few kids, around 9 years old on push bikes slowly approach the car. As my fiancee gets out they ask if it is hers/ours and comment on how good it looks. That was roof up

I have had similar driving home from work roof down and dropping her off at the office too. Various ages but none older than 20 and both men and women.

Makes me smile because my fiancee does not like it and harks for that Alfa (which was kind of hers anyway).

I guess being a convertible helps but the Z3 (and Z4 I suspect) gets the attention because of that long bonnet. They do look dandy. Is this normal?

My son @notzed informed me I looked like a gay barber when he saw me in my zed first time.:meh: Then he wanted to borrow it, guess what I said? ;)

People always assume you've got plenty of dosh because you've got a bmw convertible fact is mines probably worth less than a 4 year old bog standard fiesta which nobody notices or pays attention to, kinda cool really :D

Yes I too have had plenty of attention in mine by young and old alike, I took it to bush tyres and ended letting 2 kids sit in it whilst their mum took pictures, also had lads shout out, "nice car mate" always puts a smile on my face and makes all the work I have put into it worth while,

On the rare occasion my wife takes the Zed out she enjoys plenty of young male attention (regarding the car). I also get people reminiscing about the days when they had one just like it back in the day.
Ofcourse I don't tell them they could buy one for a few grand

It's the long nose and the two nostrils that grab attention and the fact that there are not many around compared to MX5's which are two a penny around here.

When I bought my first Zed, I had to get gas to go from Maryland to New Jersey so I stopped at a gas station. I no sooner pulled in and a young woman pulled up on the other side of the fuel island and came over to the car and was just ga-ga about how beautiful it looked. I don't think I had the car 5 minutes. I thought...Is this how it's going to be???... They are head turners........Frankie

I think that's it. Convertibles attract some attention but rare ones much more.
The weather was half decent yesterday on my drive home from work so I had the roof down. Just as I drove into where we live some kid on a bike says hello (don't know him despite him living local) and says "Nice car". My fiancee was at home and I picked her up (she wanted the roof up - hair gets messed yada yada :D) and as we passed the kid put his hand up and waved. She hates it as it is getting as much if not more attention than the Alfa did. She says its only boys and men that like it. It isn't :p

I'm planning to keep using it until October now instead of late October. MOT is due in October and I thin once that is done I'll cover it up for the winter. I'll let my new Merc take the salt :D

The beauty of living in our part of Oz is we can go topless all year round. Salt is for bunging on fish and chips, why would you put it on a Merc? You English are funny fellas.

Same, I was very pleasantly surprised by the random love my Z3 gets from all walks, young, old, male, female, rich, poor etc.

There seems to be a widespread soft spot for the Z3 now in the general population. Which I find significant, because it was widely ridiculed as a car for quite some time if memory serves (including by me:bag:)

I can relate on 2 levels. I used to have an Alfa years age. It was a 1968 1600 Spider Veloce. What a great car. Last one before the clam shaped front. Also, the wife complains about the hair thing with the top down. I tell her to bring a scarf as she KNOWS I'm putting the top down.........................Frankie

There aren’t many around at all. BMW produced - to order (clever marketing) - a tiny number at 300,000 over an eight years period.
Today, in fact, someone told me how scarce the Z3 is becoming*
*I already knew this fact but hey...girl...sports car...male...say no more

I have lots of people - all ages - comment about my Beautiful Beamer. Not many of our beauts on the road and they look so retro and unique, it’s little wonder they garner attention.

Ridiculed?!? No, never. It was launched in the Bond movie and reviews were very good. I never even test drove one, just took it as red that mine would be a great car when I ordered it.

Not just males - females adore the Z3, too. Take it from one whose had hers from new :)
