Central Locking Question

I have a 98 z3 convertible and I want to do the opposite. I want to be able to keep stuff in the trunk without fear of theft. Of course with enough effort they always get through. But currently - since I keep my top down usually - they can just reach in to the inside door handle, which unlocks the boot. Super easy to take everything and not obvious to keep locked. Suggestions?

Disconnect the central locking cable at the actuator in the boot would seem to be the obvious one? Then operate the boot lock manually with the key.

I've never done it but I thought that if the boot was lock locked with the key then it stayed locked even if the doors were opened.

That would be the rational behavior, but I had the wise idea to reach in and unlock my door with the internal door handle and the boot unlocked. Oops! I had a false sense of security all that time!

Thanks @t-tony, will look for that actuator.

Mine still doesnt work on the passenger side. Replaced the actuator from someone on here, worked once then stopped again
If it "worked once" after changing the actuator and stopped again then maybe it's a cable issue. Changing the actuator might have wiggled the cables a bit to make a temporary connection.

Ok, so here's my situation.. central locking only opens both doors (not boot) from the passenger door (key only, not even tried the remote). BUT the passenger door wont open till you've opened it from the inside, so something still locked.
boot doesnt respond to anything other than the key, directly.
My z3 doesn't have a keyhole on the passenger side. Sounds like yours does?

Anyway. Sounds like the motor inside the passenger side actuator is duff. (Or the 12v supply cable is broken). The switches/sensors at the passenger side are still working so when you unlock that door with the key it sends the signal to the controller to open the driver's door. But coz the passenger side motor isn't working it won't open without the key.

Just been outside to test it. If I lock the car using the remote then the door is deadlocked and door can not be unlocked from the inside.

The owners handbook says this

And if I lock the boot with the key turning it clockwise all the way then the boot is deadlocked and stays locked even if the central locking is unlocked.

This is the page about locking the boot.

My car is a 99 z3. Has the behaviour changed in newer models?
