Central Locking Query

Looking at small items left on my to-do list for my Z3 1.9 and pondering this one with the central locking.

If I lock/unlock the car with the key from the drivers or passengers door, both doors lock and unlock. However, this does not unlock or lock the boot.

If I lock/unlock the boot with the key then the boot locks and unlocks and the doors lock and unlock.

I am not convinced this is normal operation. If I lock the doors at the door then I expect the boot to lock as well.

Does this sound like a wiring issue going to the boot where the boot actuator is not getting the signal to lock or could this be something else? Thanks.

The usual suspect for these symptoms is the wiring loom from the body to the boot lid - aka the `loom of doom' The pics show type of damage that can occur but these are worst case, they can be single wire minor damage. Would suggest you start by peeling back sheath and checking conditions. You can also connect multimeter to lock actuator terminal .

This is what I am thinking too. This seems to be a common occurance. Cheers.

The following is an extract from a previous post (@BrianH) identifying wires:

As you can see below there are 9 wires in the boot loom, below the 9 wires are grouped with the function attached. The lock/unlock and switch position functions are controlled via the central ZKE module
The two wires below are part of a common loom that triggers the door actuator/lock.

1.5 BL/GR blue/grey - boot lock motor wire

1.5 WS white - boot lock motor wire

The three wires below are supply wires and lock position wires, the supply is fed from fuse 7 (5amp)

0.35 RT/GN red/green - boot lock switch - supply wire

0.5 WS/BL white/blue - boot lock switch - unlock wire

0.5 WS/GN/GE white/green/yellow - boot lock switch - lock wire

The two wires below are for the third brake light, the fuse for the third brake light is fuse F46 (15A) and controlled via the brake light switch.

0.5 BR brown - 3rd brake light - earth

0.75 BL/RT blue/red - 3rd brake light - supply Wire

The two wires below are for the boot interior light, this switch is located in the boot latch. The fuse for the boot light switch is F33 (10a).

0.5 BR/WS brown/white - boot light switch supply wire

0.5 BR brown - boot light switch - earth

Took the opportunity after work today to cut open the loom from the boot. Yep, broken wire. Not my finest soldering but it is now all taped back up and central locking works a treat, just like a bought one. Thanks for the help
