Catalytic converter

My 1999 1.9 doesn't have a catalytic converter in the exhaust system. When it comes to the mot test next year will I need to fit one to pass the emission test?

In a word, Yes. If it had one fitted from new it has to have one.

That's what I was thinking. If the car was motd properly last time it should have failed on this as well as the huge number of other bits and bobs it should of fell down on.
