Ok I get that but it must cost you 1 months road tax each time you do this, what I'm suggesting wouldn't need to cost anything. Until/if anything changes yours is the best option at present.

No Tony I don't lose out at all. It costs the number of months it's taxed for. I tax it from the 1st day of month 1 to (almost) the last day of month 9 then claim back 3 months tax.
As you say though it would be great to be able to tax/untax at will for as many months as you like.
