Car scrapping

Honestly, I would have laid odds that that was an Eastern European Immigrant responsible for that. AND I mean NO offence but you do see videos on YouTube etc. of that kind of thing happening. My comment is, It didn't fall off, SO, was it unsafe?
I saw a car come past home near teatime today and I thought it was the same thing happening, but no it was just a huge "Burger Box" on a roof rack.

Tony.

Thought it was a top gear challenge?

That's the guy you need to carry a tray of drinks through a crowded bar. He wouldn't spill a drop

Suprised he didn't get fined for not taxing and insuring it.

I recently had a fine for my number plate being tinted and mispaced from the safer roads partnership. I am breaking the law with it and I cannot complain, completely my fault. £100 fixed penalty.

But this guy drove around like that and only recieved an £80 fine (without surcharge and costs), something is a bit wrong with the system I think! Going by the fines obviously he is much safer on the roads than I am with my illegal plates =))

What an idiot :banghead:

I thought it was ok, after all he had strapped it down and I'm sure the weight of it would have allowed the car he was driving to perform as it should, no issues with the steering or brakes with the extra tonne and and a half sat on it. Moron........:arghh:

Strange loads are a tradition in Wales. I’ve seen a double mattress being carried on a car roof. Held down by an extended arm out of the window either side, including the driver. Driving past Swansea central Police station.

I’ve also seen a dead cow on its back, legs in the air on the back of a trailer being pulled by a tractor. Driving past Sainsburys in Swansea centre.

I’m not saying any of this is right. But in all honesty things are done a little differently down here. And again, not condoning it but I like the way of life here better than southern England

Horse drawn transport is still seen here from time to time too. More horses in Swansea district per square mile than any other urban area in the country.

I just want to know...... how on earth did he bloody get it up there to start with. You’ve got to admire his stupidity somewhat

Carl
With a forklift truck. In fairness if the BBC had published the full background he wouldn't look quite as big a twonk as he does.

He drove it 300 yards through an industrial estate at 5mph and it was strapped down. A van was following behind (you can see it peel off) and he stopped when other cars were near by. And he had used the forklift to test out the stability of the loading.

It's still a daft thing to do. But the BBC just fall further in my estimation for their sensationalised spin on it.

It also fails to mention even the Police had to refer it to the DVSA to establish safe loading laws to determine exactly what and if anything he had done wrong.

And they aren't beyond advising nonsense either.

"Transporting vehicles should only be done via specialist trailers with sufficient straps to fully secure the load to all corners".

Well what about all the scrap merchants who just balance them on the back of their wagons held down with the hiab arm?

They also chastised him for having no tax or MOT on the scrap car. Which is cobblers as it wasn't in contact with the road. The only point of relevance to paperwork I can see is he was probably invalidating his own car insurance by doing it.

Still an idiot thing to do.
