Ringing up about car insurance the other day, not for the zed, but my other car.Just a normal standard car , normal plates not personal etc, it was the usual questions and reg number, then the chap asked what year the car was manufactured. I told him that I supposed it was 2018,but he went on about it could have been made in 2017 and that they (LV) could not insure it unless they knew the year of manufacture. Never in over 50 years insuring cars have I been told that. I thought the 'year officially' was when first registered, anyway after checking the year of manufacture I rang back. Didn't get the same chap and went through the process again and he just took the reg, make , model etc, and completed the insurance. He wasn't interested when I told him about the questions re; year of manufacture.
However, this made me think about my Breakdown cover for the Z3. It's a 2002 car, but was made in 2001 so when they ask how old the car is do I say 16 years or 17. I've always gone with the registration date.
Any insurance experts out there ?

Got to be registered surely.
That is when it was first used. What else matters?

If you start that route, is it the cars age or the bits on the car?
Sounds like an officious clerk not quite understanding what they’re being asked to do.
