Move the cones and park there, or comply with the neighbours imposed parking restriction. An individual call.
I am sorry but I take the other view, so will play Devil's Advocate.
It annoys the hell out of me when people park in front of my house when they visit neighbours, and I get back and can't even park outside my own property, I end up walking, and having to go back out again later to re-park, just so they can just step in.
Where are the ones across the road supposed to park their cars, or their subsequent visitors?
It's not their fault that you have four vehicles on your drive and need to park a fifth, meaning they then no longer have space to park one..
That is the part that is not neighbourly, and that is probably how they are feeling,
It would wind me up too having a "big white van" blocking my view trying to get out of the drive onto the road.
Some places don't even allow parking of commercial vehicles in residential areas within the deeds, because of the issues between neighbours that they can cause.
Sorry if you dont like my view, but they probably wouldn't like these earlier views either.
Neighbourly action is about give and take, and so far there apparently seems to be only taker, and a number of enforced givers.
Reading between the lines, its sounds like you are upsetting more than just one person across the road, which is not going to do you any favours with the council or police, regardless of how legally allowed it may be.

I don't disagree with what your saying Pete. Our old place was a nightmare. It was a cul-de-sac with 8 houses in it. We all had a minimum of a 2 car drive yet parking was awful. There were 6 large vans out if 8 houses plus at least 2 cars per house. I fell out with more people for parking over our drive, as you say it's about respect but few had respect for us although we never once blocked people's drives and never let visitors either. It's an age old problem and it'll only ever get worse with builders building these ridiculous housing estates where everyone shares access to the properties. You have to turn this situation around and think how you would feel if someone parked a large white van outside your house. Parking isn't great where I live and I always try to be respectful when parking if I can't get in 'my own' space, it really annoys me if I can't park outside the house because someone else has parked there. If I was in a situation where I had to get up and move my own car to get another one of mine out then I would do that, just so it keeps the peace with the neighbours as I know how annoying it is when they park where I normally do. I don't use their spaces so why should they use mine? It's just about respect, maybe you could have had a word to ask if they mind just on a one off occasion. But then they could have had a word with you before dumping cones out. It looks as though your quite lucky and have a very large drive and double yellows outside your house? Not everyone has this luxury and are limited for parking which could be why the neighbours are a little annoyed. If they have ample room and not enough cars to fill the spaces they are doing it maybe because you never asked, even though it's not illegal what you had done.
@Shelly I have a stack of cones adandoned outside my back gates. Feel free to collect and distribute out side your house

It is difficult Pete, I know. When we visit our son's home in Lincoln we have the self same problem. But you have said you can't park outside your house due to visitors at your neighbours not allowing you to park outside your own home. Yet you say the people with the cones are being "reasonable" by trying to keep it clear for their visitors. I can't get my head round that mate. Like I said I couldn't live in a town or city and this will only get worse as the number of vehicles increases. There's plenty of parking at the house we're selling ...................
Tony.
ps. In my opinion Shelly's neighbours would've been better if they'd talked to them rather than plonking cones down.

Haha might just work![]()

Personally it is the neighbours causing the issue
We pay our car tax and the lay by across the road is anyone's to use![]()
Our deeds stipulate no caravans or commercial vehicles to be parked outside. We know because we bought the house as a new build. Our new neighbours either don’t know or don’t care. .
Its a stalemate then.
reap what you both sow
Yep shame. Hope no one sandwiches you on a motorway., or bangs into your cars randomly and runs away, while parked.
Ready for you to sow what you reap, @gookah![]()
