@David it is not the OBC connector, that is a black right angled connector with 12 miniture connections, let us know the wire colours please.
Thanks Brian, will check within the next hour, although this is where my colour blindness may cause some problems! :dead:
...I'll attach a picture for you, to be sure :)

Having now looked I am in agreement with HT, perhaps @bonzo can confirm when he removes his HU, or alternatively as Brian said what are the wire colours?

Wire colours are above as in the picture above your post
Its amusing to others but I can genuinely only guess that the wire colours above from top to bottom are:

Solid brown (?)
Red (?) and black
Yellow and green (?)

...Red green and brown is probably the worst colour combination BMW could have chosen, for this particular connection, with my particular query, and my particular colour vision defect! B*stards! :rage:

I removed my centre console today to fit the cupholder insert and have exactly the same connector spare. The previous owner fitter an after market stereo and used terminal blocks to wire it in, so may be for the BMW unit..

It would also appear not all Z3 will have one fitted?
Correct, if you have an OBC you will have a chime module, if you have an analogue clock I suspect you won't.

Mine does not have OBC so should have the connector loose, and it must be on the drivers side, as I checked the passenger side earlier and nothing available except a black and white square connector?

@Brian H

Thank you!! I'm relieved to find that I don't have a bodged wiring loom from a previous owner, and that I haven't made some major error during my dash reinstallation.

Out of interest, if I bought and fitted one of these chimes, would it make a noise during stated processes in that link you provided?

From what I read David, the chime module is linked to the OBC so by simply fitting one will not make it work.

I will do, I have the console loose as we speak, as I am now doing final fix on the hifi now I have sorted the sound, so running some longer cables to the boot to move the amp. If it is there I will take a photo, I will also take a photo of all other loose plugs, there are a few in that area on the loom.
