Hi All,

Whilst refitting my centre console, I have found this connector and I am unable to figure out what it's for. Can someone please enlighten me?

Where abouts is it David, if it's roughly at the centre near the gear stick it could possibly be the illumination for an Auto car? You could try a test light in the contacts to see if it comes "live" when you turn sidelights on.HTH.

Tony.

If it is towards the rear of the centre console I am inclined to say it is something to do with the heated rear screen switch for when a hardtop is installed.

Hi David - just had a look through my photos of 1998 switches but nothing matches.
If nobody comes up with an Ident, then you could trawl though the ETM looking for matching set of cable colours to a switch in that area.

Hi David,
I've just replaced my rear fog light switch (It's just above the drivers left knee close to steering column It has 2 circular push on / push off buttons) Your connector looks identical to my connector
Hope this helps

Hi all,

@Barry Gadd - Yes, it is identical to the rear fog switch, however I have plugged that in!

It is at the front of the centre console, where all the stereo wiring, heated seat switches and AC connectors are

I've just trawled through the electrical system diagrams on bmwfans and can't see anything remotely like that connector. Assumes of course that they haven't changed the style of connector at some stage....

Shot in the dark, illuminated knob?
(and I don't mean Bad Boy, as he lives his life on the lowest setting of a dimmer switch)

@GazHyde - I have a Facelift Z3 if that makes any difference? I know they changed the style of connectors on the seat electronics between pre and post facelift so it is a possibility...

If all Z3s are fitted with it, the only thing that is left for it to possibly be is an illuminated knob connector. Maybe somebody can confirm this for me?

I broke down a 2001 1.9 M43 on bmwfans, so I'd guess not. Unless they have changed the connectors but not the diagrams!

Strange, my car is a 2000 1.9 M43, and I highly doubt they changed anything

The only thing that is remotely near Which could be linked to the stray connector is my centre vents that don't allow any air through, but that's mechanical isn't it?

other options based on a molex connector are cigarette lighter or cruise control

or an AMP or hifi connector, its definitely a power connector anyway

@David it is not the OBC connector, that is a black right angled connector with 12 miniture connections, let us know the wire colours please.

I reckon that a previous owner has spliced in an after market HU.
