Video Building a Sub Box for BMW Z3

oops, ok im a numpty, i figured as my amps description is qxt-250 i assumed it was a 250w amp, wrong have just found this -
QXT 12Vi
VENTED CHASSIS
BASS
325W RMS . 650W PEAK

so yes i did overcook the Lanzar. it does still work (tried it this morning) sounds a little tight but i think if i keep using it it may loosen up:). im now considering if i should try two 6.5 drivers.

You have the power
=))
The downside is do you have the space ?
I would stick with one and run the amp on low gain

Great stuff now you just have to check it fits in the car :)
So the HK box
Length is 330mm

Two 5.25" speakers back to back wired outt of phase inside the box.
The measure ments are to the extremities i would drop 10mm on height for top and bottom clearance removing the boxes ribs .

thanks, the box i have is 160mm high, 320mm wide and 90mm deep, the sub sticks out to give a total of about 103mm, is this ok?

easyer this way - W320 D90 H160mm

You only have 83mm total there may be alittle more on that to the dimention of the box but not sure your gonna find 20mm :(.
This was why i could not use that speaker it fitted the box just but it was such a tight fit as its 19mm proad of front face where as the kicker was about 6mm and the speaker its self sat lower in that frame.

damn.
umm odd, susans box is 100mm deep from front to back, is this wrong? my box is 90mm, the driver is mounted on the inside so it only protudes about 5 - 10mm taking it to 100mm, but if this is not going to fit then i need to get a shallower driver (and another box=)), number 4 i think)

I have measured the HK box it may have more room in the cubby box than it takes up so it may be fine i had to gring a few plastic casting pits off the rear of the box and it fits flash with the cubby box back panel.
I would try it for fit its gonna be trial and error i think.

hopefully be sunny over the weekend so i can strip the cubby out and see, though on another point, while stuffing tools into the passenger footwell yesterday i put the box on top of them, then when i braked it fell into the front of the footwell, fits great there, then while retrieving it i noticed it may be possible to remove the black rear trim part under the glove box, would it fit in there i wonder.
maybe loose the glove box instead and go bigger?

There is a fair amount of room behind there many fit amps up behind there so there must be some space removing the glove box would certainly give you more space but think the cubby hole is still the best option if it will fit

the cubby is the best place from a sound point of view, right behind your head:) best place for bass

i should have a lot more room sideways as i dont have the hoops, be interesting to see exactly how much more, shame i cant find a 6 by 12 oblong woofer:) there are a few 6x9 but there not normally shallow enough.

now on box number 5 (i think), this one has two 5.25 inch drivers in it, will compare the two and see which wins (between 1 x 6.5 or 2 x 5.25), i have also made the box a bit smaller so it will now just drop in ( i hope) H 150mm, W 320mm and D 80mm.
the 6.5 should win, but the 2 x 5.25 will give an extra 25% cone area, but may not be able to drop as low due to the cones being smaller. we will see

hey come out quite well. hoping for sun tomorrow so I can lower the roof and strip out the cubby, amp is all wired in and connected to the head unit ready, next thing is which will win the honour of living in my cubby - 6.5 or two 5.25? to be fair there isn't much difference in cone size as the 6.5 has a lot of rubber edge.

That's looks great Jason

quite chuffed its come out so well, but can it compete with the 6.5, to be fair the cheap lanzar 6.5 does sound really good, but this can handle more watts, will update in the morning:thumbsup:

Results are in, the 6.5 beats the 5.25 with ease with the low pass filter on. So the 5.25 (on high pass) sounds great now there online for going in behind the seats to replace the 3 inch ones I have now assuming they will fit.
