Finished an offshore job on Wednesday and when we arrived back in Pompey dockyard we passed HMS Prince of Wales on the right and HMS Queen Elizabeth berthed ahead of her.
It was a miserable day and these were the best pics I could get on my phone. It was blowing a hoollie so I stayed inside

The reflections from the window looks like there are UFO's overhead =))

Very impressive, not bad for a little island. Wonder if Scotland will get heir own?

I think it was last Tuesday, we had an F35 fly over our house, I thought the Euro fighter was loud but this was louder. The F35 had taken off from the deck of one of the carriers in the dockyard and was still gaining altitude.

Not sure to be honest, but she recently got back from USA where I understand she did some trials landing and dispatching aircraft

I bet that was an amazing sight.

Been anywhere exciting they were trying to send me offshore in Libya last week. Politely declined.

We were checking the cranes that load the munitions on the ships just off Pompey. I've got two, one week visits to Bahrain to do in 2020, one in March then again in September and there's talk of a job in Oman but someone else might do that one.

I would never go that far east makes me nervous. I try to keep myself to the north sea and Arctic circle. Been away 4 times this year, no doubt it will be the same next year.

We dont need one already got a fleet of nuclear submarines that we are keeping :whistle:

Not if Sturgeon gets her way. She wants them out.

Tony.

She's probably not the only one Tony .
There's a good number of people up here who dont really want a nuclear arsenal on their doorstep.

The first time I went to Bahrain I got a phone call from the UK saying they'd had reports of civil unrest near to my hotel and that they'd get me out if I wanted but I stayed on the job. My work is for an MOD contract and I had to do a "special course" before they'd let me travel abroad. The course covered stuff like land mine awareness, how to act if you get kidnapped, how to act if held up at check points, first aid for gunshot wounds and knife wounds, etc.

Have to say though, the actual job is no where near as exciting as the CONDO course. (Contractor On Deployed Operations)

We get sent on that too. Makes it all feel real that's for sure. Thought I got away from working for the MOD, just seems I'm now affiliated in a different capacity.

I can understand that Steve and if they were surface vessels they would not need to be there either. It's only because there are no other deep water accessible points around the English coast.
One thing to remember is that the nuclear "umbrella" doesn't stop at Hadrians wall, it covers the whole of the UK.

Sadly what these people don't get is that if we lost our Nuclear Deterrent there would be massive job losses and the likes of Tadley and surrounding villages would be ghost towns. Not to mention the extended supply chain, science capability and seat at the World's top table we'd lose :(

Jobs Steve, jobs and expendable income into the community.
