Even if your Z3 has an OBD port inside the car under the dash it does not read anything other than Engine and Auto gearbox modules. It doesn’t read airbag codes.

Or check my answer to this thread, and bridge the pins in the engine so you can read from inside.

There is a Technical Service Bulletin for the connectors to the seat belt tensioner, my car had the air bag light on when I got it and when I went for the annual inspection they diagnosed it and the problem was the tensioner connectors (under the seats), I replaced both connectors and brought the car back for re-inspection, they reset the system memory because the fault is stored and until it is fixed it will turn the airbag light back on. I noticed after I replaced the connectors with the service kit and started the car there was a slight delay in the light coming back-on, I was guessing that it passed the self check and the light came on due to the stored fault code. They erased the fault code from the system memory and I have not had a problem since in 2+ years.

Can you advise on where you got this from as your helpful message implies this could be a standard repair kit that could be of benefit to a lot of members who are reporting this (repeating) fault.

The repair Kit part number is 61 12 9 118 112 Rep.cable F seat plug, that is the part number which supersedes part # 61 12 9 908 853. The problem is corrosion on the connectors creates additional resistance resulting in the circuit failing the self check which triggers the fault code (6 I believe). I had my pretensioner's serviced as well, they were not coming up in the codes, at the time they were 13 years old so I had them serviced to help to avoid any additional problems.
