The quality of the powder coating looks top notch there Lee, either the photos or they’ve upped there game a notch.
The finish quality will all depend on how good the metal is to begin with. The majority of this car is still perfect.

Had a productive day today. Gaz came over to lend a hand, straight away we got onto building the front shocks, now looking very pretty.

Couple of hours later front end back together sporting the new M discs and upgraded roll bar bushes.

just waiting on braided lines and the red paint to dry.

Next up we rebuilt the swing arms. New handbrake mech and cables, along with discs and sensors.

Next I did the gearbox indent pins while Gaz got all strange with diff, supposedly it asked him to paint it like one of his french girls :D

The first 3 indent pins. 1-4 gears. Old pins.

New pins installed.

A full house. All pins replaced with no problems.

This gearbox will shift really nice now.

And the diff Gaz got all Van Gogh with.
A2B45ACA-9485-4DB6-9F1B-C9E77D460FB8.jpeg

I agree looks like new again.

We also fitted the beam bushes. So tomorrow should be fluid changes and subframe and gearbox reinstall. That’s if everything goes to plan.

Painting the diff today was so rewarding, although only made so by how clean the dang thing was to start with. Normally the Hammerite soaks in like it's on a sponge, but this applied so nicely! Couple of places to touch up tomorrow no doubt ;)

Also forgot to mention how damned sexy those front BMW ///M embossed brake discs look. Not sure if Lee posted any close ups of them but even the diamond milled finish on the faces is superb, almost a shame to put pads to them! The rear discs also have a coating on the centre section so they won’t discolour immediately. Not paid much attention to M brakes before, but I guess thats mainly because owners change them for alternative options after market options before we see them!

Great work again guys.

Don’t want to go off topic but speaking of ///M logos, the ///M fairies do like to leave their stamp around.

Nice to see you getting to grips with some clean OEM parts, beam bushes seem typical for age of car. About time manufacturers took the leap away from rubber.
Great read yet again, well done so far.

Full steam ahead day today. First job was fresh fluids in the diff and gearbox. Gearbox was the first item to go back in. Shortly followed by building the rear subframe.

For a first this is a subframe assembly that’s not been powder coated.
BFCD45D6-2425-429A-AEC9-B74A982CB3F1.jpeg

Sitting nicely in place. Would of been nice to finish the rear install but the shocks are not here yet.
C2AE8E93-276C-4B7F-BE40-C3EF4B86285A.jpeg

We also had security fitting various bulbs that had blown in the centre console.

2nd coat of red paint on the brake components.

We had a special visited today who was eager to lend a hand. I left him with Gary fitting the prop and new Guidbo. @Dino D

You can now see how the beam bushes should be sitting.

Also sporting some of Mazza’s tank straps.
7CAC4289-E69C-443A-A242-2FF896A33516.jpeg

Now the exhaust centre section is on we refitted the front brace. Looking very bling.
C0B93EEE-ECED-4725-8482-1CF918000FEF.jpeg

Now only a few jobs left to do. We changed the Fuel filter out for a new one. Old filter had a date of 2005 so could of been fitted any time after that date.
DEFA3A40-CE06-4F30-BD15-EB14B01C86CB.jpeg

New filter in place. You also get an idea of how clean everything is.

Last little job of the day was removing the old throttle cable. We decided to call it a day here, we only have the new rear shocks to fit and reinstate the brakes.

She’s very nearly road ready :)

Was eye opening to see all the tiny differences and extra development that makes an M different to a regular model especially on heat management and airflow into the engine.

The M centre console is thing of beauty!

front brakes are very trick as they are floating but the bolts hidden from view when looking at them from the outside.
Given they floating and big diameter, thicker and have curved vanes and handed, they actually well priced!
Might get one just go make a clock from =))

Only a little update. I’ve been waiting for parts from BMW. So today I re fitted the brakes, exhaust, under trays and re commissioned the handbrake system. Also the new throttle cable went in to get rid of that stuff pedal.

Not that there’s much to see here but new throttle cable installed.

Under trays back on to keep the grim off the car.
0BCA8418-BBD2-4EF9-8655-49590C65D53A.jpeg

the red brakes look good. I won’t be using this paint again, it was a total nightmare. I’ve also position the red braided lines. Ray likes red :)

Now this just leaves me the rear shocks if they ever turn up. I’ve given them till close of play tomorrow. Also drivers seat bushes need doing. Brake lines will need reconnecting and a final bleed. Very nearly there now.
